Anyone else think Australia Post has dropped their bundle.?

Our Post Shop, as it likes to be known these days still occupies the same room as it did 40 years ago. In those days there were writing desks all along the walls where people could fill out forms, sort out the paper work place their parcels while they waited etc Now there is only writing space for one person, the rest is taken up with merchandise with a queue of waiting people shuffling through it carrying parcels or kicking them along in front of them.
A few years ago we visited a post office on the New England tablelands where they didn't have stamps but had a set of used mag wheels. Talk about losing the plot.

THAT IS EASY TO EXPLAIN AWAY.

Stamp Profit went to AP while mag wheels were the Postmaster's own property looking for a quick sale.

there was always a postmaster and I remember where I grew up the postmaster's tenure was only 4 or 5 years.

made a couple of good friends and they were usually a good bloke too.

funny isn't it? in a small town , the Postmaster , teachers , firemen , most business managers , policemen , govt officers, bank managers were all posted to the town and never really became fully community members

The owners of Post Offices are sending $5 each to the PM to pay for the watches [bighmmm]. They believe the stood down CEO is the best thing that has happened to Aust Post and has their support. As they indicated, that without her and the execs who managed to get contracts with the banks, the Governments $50m yearly dividend would only be about $25m - so in their view the $20k cost of the watches was worth the extra $25m that now goes to the Govt.

That may be so, but I wouldn't like to be the odd bloke/woman out on the list who didn't donate because he/she had a different opinion of her..[bighmmm]

Most of the above were public servants or employees of Qangos. The employment systems were usually tiered and with some experience at a level it was time to start applying for the next step up which usually meant a transfer if one was at the highest level in one's current location.

Not where I grew up, they were all locals and everyone knew each other, played tennis and cricket with each other on the weekend, etc. Even the Copper was a long time local who you’d find in the Pub on a Saturday night ‘just to check on everyone’ but that generally took 4 or 5 pots to do the rounds.

The Post Office had the same people run it for 30 years and I still used to visit them even after they retired. Both still kicking in their mid 90’s too now and still independent and living at home. 👍
