My Carton of Wine has never arrived from Sydney in 2 years. I guess if it could speak it would have some travellers tales to tell. 2 x trips to Darwin by rail & who knows where else it has been.
In that time it could have been around the world half a dozen times.

Yep,
in August we had two Origin Energy power accounts that did not arrive until two days after the due date.
I was aware that we should have had the accounts so I called Origin who said that the accounts had been sent out on the 10th of August, due date was the 24th, they arrived in the mail on the 26th.

Mid October we received three overdue notices for vehicle registrations (Trailer, Tractor, and a Toyota ute) that were due in September, we had not received the original "Renewal Notices" and cannot be sure if they were lost in the postal system, or never sent out in the first place.
Luckily none of the vehicles had been out of the shed during the 2-3 week period that the registration had lapsed.
Either way it could have been a sticky situation, either attracting a decent fine from Victoria Police, or worse still had the tractor or the ute been involved in an accident. I have heard of this same scenario occurring in the last month or so with a couple of people i know.

I have sent Vicroads an email regarding this, but as yet I have not received a response.

Not sure about other states, but in Qld the vehicle registration people don't accept the excuse that the owner did not receive a registration reminder. You are expected to know when it is due and pay on time.
I don't know the full story about what's going on with Australia Post, but it does appear there is some evidence it has taken its focus away from it's core business of putting mail in mailboxes.

While placing a lot of emphasis on stocking the front counter area with stuff one used to buy from Dick Smith & Toys are us & similar establishments.. Cartons & cartons of stuff to trip over.

My last Canon Wireless Printer came from AP's LocaL PO.

Up until early 1989 Social Security payments were in cheque form by mail. PMG did a great job getting millions of cheques delivered all around Oz within a couple of day of posting. Certain clients would come to the office every so often and complain "My cheque didn't arrive".This was a euphemism for "I got it, I spent it, it wasn't enough, so I want another one."

Many post offices are now privately owned franchises, so they have gone the way of newsagencies and servos and become retail stores.

I know what you mean by the onus is on the owner/driver to ensure the vehicle is registered, and that's fair enough, but they choose to send out "renewal notices" which pretty well puts the ball back in their court. Plus the fact we no longer get a rego label, so cant have a quick glance at it as we jump into the drivers seat. Supposedly rego labels were getting too expensive to produce....on $600-700 per annum rego's.....yet with our $77.70 Historic CPS (Club Permit System) they supply an annual label.
Fines are "Taxes" and I tend to think all these things are geared towards an increase in revenue through fines.
