Any Steel Frame Civil Engineers on this Forum?

    Hello All,

Just wondering if there are any civil engineers on the forum who could draw up a bespoke design that utilises standard 6 metre length steel Z and C purlins. Materials that would be available second hand to be used by myself as an owner-builder.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Hi

I used to do a bit with Cold Form steel like you have materials and sections you have nominated.

The Z & C sections due to the slender member elements and open section design require a totally different design approach using the Cold Form steel code. AS4600
In my exposure a lot of engineers are not familiar with his code.

I doubt I'll do it but maybe I can help with someone who could.

You will need to flesh out the brief more.

    What are you building.
    How big is it
    What are the clear spans.
Where is it for wind loading.
How long do you want it too last
    Council or other permits

You really need the geometry defined of what you are building so the engineer can design a structural skelton to suit.
