There were quite a few fire breaks years ago, that’s late sixty’s,and seventies.
Most of the inland tracks were actually fire breaks. They were easily seen on the airial photographs that we used before maps of the area were available.

I reckon this fire could have been 'Nipped in the Bud' weeks ago, with a 3 blade width, containment line across the top of the island.
I know people of certain persuasions will gasp in horror at the suggestion of desecrating the flora.
However, having worked on Fraser, whilst the sand mining was in full swing, I would bet London to a brick that very few, if any, 'Environmentalists' could take me to the mine site today, based purely on the damage to the area. It is truly an example of Mother Nature healing herself. I think she identifies as non-testicled?
Hope all goes well for all up there and W&KO get to enjoy the place.
Plenty BBQ lizard for the native dogs, at least. They are not allowed to use the lakes to refill the fire fighting choppers, how silly is that. All it would take is a decent storm, back to normal. Oh well, the beach can't burn.

The lakes are water table windows, and full of wildlife, maybe that is one of the issues.

Difficult to weigh up, hey? How much wildlife dies from the fire or how much by using the lakes for water.
Not easy.

Yes, I believe it’s a second fire separate to the original one. Interesting that this fire is closish to Kingfisher Resort and get aerial support.
I haven’t seen any report of water bombing for the original fire....there have been ground crews attending to it.
