I read something similar a week or so ago where it was mentioned as a LR. Seems any 4WD is called an LR.
Maybe it is the name that has become part of the English language like Hoover, Frigidaire etc.

Fatigue is suspected as the main cause. Almost happened to me, on the way to Sydney, once. Driving along a straight stretch of road, with wife & kids in the car, tired, it was like a switch clicked , and I was asleep at the wheel, dreaming I was on a straight stretch of road. It was a vivid life like dream. Trouble was, I had to turn a corner. Lucky the car hit the edge of the road, and woke me up. We stopped just short of a large tree. I'll never forget that, And I've never driven tired since. That's how easy it can happen.Quote:

doesn't seem like anyone knows what model disco it was.
I was told by a fire/rescue officer not to lock the doors on my D2 from inside as the mechanism is so strong it is almost impossible to open.....good to stop someone from illegally opening the car but useless in a collision per se. from that day I never locked it except when I had got out + passengers.
Lots of guessing,medical episode, young kids up all night causing driver to be very tired.?Quote:

Accumulative lack of sleep, two very young kids both ill at the time, long hours at work.
Who knows,we will have to wait and see.
But it is a shocking tragic loss of life, no matter what happened.
The one year old is still fighting for life, I hope he makes it.
The cause may never be known and cannot bring back the two already dead. It could be as innocuous as looking back at a crying baby or disciplining an older child. Whatever the cause, it'll be heartbreaking for the immediate and extended family.
Back in the days of the Holden HD/HR/EH panel Vans I'd drive one as a service & Installation vehicle & often I would drive home at night on country roads, No Heater unless the under Vent type which I never used even if fitted laterQuote:

That kept me awake on many occasions. I didn't like those late night /early morning journeys after a days yakka.
Maybe the driver of the LR (Him or Her???) dozed off & woke up suddenly when they collided with the nearside steel posts & cables. Awoke with a start & took seconds to realise what happened & just where they were, over corrected away from the barrier they hit & hit the barrier on the other side. (Skid or tyre marks show this crossing the centreline & finishing at the barrier.)
I believe one of the causes of this Driver dozing off thing is when passengers go to sleep or go quiet & leave the driver to him/herself with no conversations going on.
Another tragedy that shouldn't have happened but did.[bigsad].
When I was young l drove solo over a long distance on country highway in the early hours and dozed off just for a split second. I woke to the sensation of my car spinning in circles on a bend in the road. Luckily there was no one else travelling on the road at that moment. I ended up with the vehicle sliding into a ditch on the side of the road.Quote:

'er indoors just reminded me of an accident that happened about 30 years a go to a Friend's son. Late afternoon wedding in Vic. Driver was warned not to drive back to Adelaide by a Number of his friends. but leave in the morning.
Being a bit of a hothead of a person he ignored all the warnings . Loaded up his Station Wagon with his son & gear & departed. Aprox 4 hours later he ran off the road, through a barrier & down into a slight "valley" killing his son strapped into a Child seat but somehow he was thrown out.??? But not sure if he had hit a tree in his travel as details were a bit sketchy then, & the subject has never arisen since & we haven't had contact for years
He apparently was full of guilt (as he should have been) & was desperate for years after, even to trying to take his own life without success.
The one year old is out of danger, but remains in ICU.
