    Land Rover in fatal crash.

Two dead, a young teen and a toddler. I hope it was no-one from here.
Thoughts and sympathies for the family.

Through the crash barrier and into a dam in Q/Land. Horrible event and terrible for all involved including those tasked with attending and clearing up.

Thanks Mick 'er indoors told me about this earlier
Easy to say I know, but IMHO had ARMCO been installed instead of the 'Motor cycle Rider Killer/Decapitator' they may have just got away with a side sliding collision & not in the water. Just my opinion.

    Tragic tragic.

EDIT. The '95 D1 used the press button do dad behind the washer bottle (name?) 1. to cut the fuel pump, 2. activate the Hazards, & 3. unlock the doors, in the event of a collision.

Does not the late model Discovery in which they were travelling have this feature, since there was trouble opening the doors?

I mention this because one report said it was a Land Rover Discovery.

An update. Looks like it was a D2, going on the rear step hanging down. Terrible. RIP kids.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Terribly sad news, brings back horrific memories of the four Gresham children who died in a very similar accident in the uk back in 2007.

I think it was called an "Inertia Cut Off Switch". They pro'ly had trouble opening the doors due to water pressure.

On the subject of Land Rover switches to shut off your car, this is concerning

Man pleads guilty to stalking and controlling ex-girlfriend'''s car with his computer - ABC News

"A Hobart man deliberately downloaded and set up an online application that gave him control over the stop and start function of his ex-girlfriend's car and allowed him to track her movements, a court has heard.

It was also revealed he had helped his victim to buy a Land Rover and as a consequence had access to the vehicle's VIN, which allowed him to set up the app.
Unbeknownst to the victim, the app sent him live information about her movements to his email account and enabled him to remotely control the car."

Inertia Switch, Thanks, that is it. Simple when you think about it.

Possibly Randy, but it is odd that at least one door, maybe two, were open. My guess it was Body Distortion.

Yes, it is an "inertia switch". But on my D1 it does not unlock the doors, just cuts the fuel pump relay circuit. I have fitted an additional switch to mine wired into the LPG tank solenoid. Try explaining that to someone that does not speak English!

In this case, along with possible distorted body openings, it has been reported that they were all wearing seat belts. Poor kids would have had no chance of getting out while submerged and upside down.

The car in question was a seven seater. Two kids were in baby seats. I would assume the third row occupants were the ones who were difficult to extract. There are large rocks on the bank, they could have interfered with opening doors. The media are speculating, making up or misinforming their reporting. I heard one TV report that it was a Land Cruiser SUV.
