I'm no expert Tim, but I imagine the type of roof might make a difference.
Wool is not flammable but may be attractive to rodents.
No doubt various types and grades have some sort of rating.
Ok so please educate me about insulated batts.
My house has good roof insulation but the garage, part of the main house, has no insulation and this is my office.
I want to get some batts and fit them myself, but which batts are best?

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
Hi Ian and I have no idea about what batts will be the best.
I have a tiled roof that I can easily get into and is why I will do the job myself.
But as you just pointed out, and I was considering wool, but if it attracts rodents, as I have a marsupial mouse family in the backyard, I don't want to do anything to encourage them to come into the house.
Thanks.
Greenstuf - it’s recycled PET bottles, completely harmless (unlike the mineral wool stuff) and is literally pillow material.

Doesn’t house small animals either, apparently.
We used it in our roof plus a layer of triple layered foil against the rafters:

I have done several buildings using this stuff. The stuff that I get here can also be bought covered in Alfoil. I always try and use a double layer, one at right angle to the other. Be wary of letting it touch any downlights or similar that protrude through the ceiling into the roof space.

As someone who spends time in roof spaces (electrician), earthwool batts are best bang for your buck, they don't itch the crap out of your skin!![]()
Rodents don't care what your batts are made of . [another sparky ]
I have the synthetic ones , very happy ,they work , no itch , no cough , easy to install & competitive price .
Also, and probably common sense, but fit the highest R rating that you can fit. The more the better

As mentioned, the earth wool batts work well and good value. Also the highest R rating you can fit, however with a pitched tiled roof, space should not be a problem.
I'd go a Flying Fox!
