Something similar would occur when you replace a MB in a computer. You essentially have created a new computer and the copy of windoze wouldn’t be registered.

Yes, that's true, and you make an interesting point, but I reckon that in Australia if you made enough fuss you could get Microsoft to give you a new license. Remember those Windows 7 boxes that all came with the license key stuck to the bottom or side of the computer? Maybe they were the answer to that question under Australian law?

Back in the 80's when I was peddling mining and construction equipment my employer had the national franchise for a very good line of small equipment made in Minnesota. Good sellers and the best resale value.

Now we found out that the maker did not publish a workshop manual. A parts book and operators manual came with each machine but no shop manual available. The makers response was to take the machine to the nearest authorised dealer. Their heartland was in the US grain belt, Great Plains and prairies. There were apparently dealers about every 40 miles. We sold about 10 of them to a big mine who wanted 9 (yes 9) copies of operators, parts books, etc for each machine. They spat the dummy big time when they found out the manufacturer's policy. With the mine up in Cape York and Brisbane the nearest dealer taking the busted machine to the dealership would be a little difficult. So my employer bit the bullet and produced workshop manuals.
