For anything sticky, I use wax and grease remover to remove the stick and allow you to get a start on it. Get it from Bunnings or an auto store.
Although not as easy as taking the darn plastic off to begin with!
Was out and about looking for inspiration for a Christmas presents today with the wife.
Spotted a BBQ on special and thought may as well replace our 25 year old one, as have been thinking about it for a while.
Anyway bought the thing, spent most of the afternoon assembling it. Fired it up for a test and realised (a little late) that some of the stainless steel parts still had that plastic protection film on it.
So my question is how do you remove it once it is partially burnt? I managed to get a lot of just peeling it and scrapping but the area that burnt the most just crumbles when you try and get a fingernail or something under an edge.
Would meths and a scrapper do the job? Any other suggestions?

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I have found the easiest way was just to burn the rest off with a small butane torch and clean the residue off with a damp clothe. Looks like new now and will not flavor the meat!! The scraping was not particularly successful, even with the acetone.
Test run again over the weekend..
