    A First For Me.

Well.......it has finally happened. Whilst out and about on the local bush tracks in N/E Vic like I usually do every day I finally saw one. Exiting a cloud of dust emerged a black Range Rover Sport. This was a first as I have never seen another Rangie on these tracks before. I do encounter the handful of local 110 Defenders but never an out of town one of these either. Usually all encounters are with Land Cruiser wagons, the odd Patrol and squillions of various Jap dual cabs. The Indian and other minor Asian cars brands are also notable for their continual absence.

Probably following the street finder, took the wrong turn and ended up on a bush track.

Well I saw a dark greenish new Defender at Avoca Beach 2 days ago, so they have sold at least one.

True life is stranger than fiction. One wet, snowing winter day in failing light I was heading home on a typical mountain bush track. It was steepish in spots, rough and muddy with rain showers rolling through. I was thoroughly enjoying myself.

Anyway I came around a corner and was confronted by a Camry slip sliding towards me. Chatting to the driver, who had his 12 year old son with him, explained. They were going for a skiing holiday. He did make comment that he was following his cars sat nav but was surprised at the poor condition of the 'road' and the lack of ski traffic.

I turned him around and escorted him back to civilisation and gave him hand written notes on how to get to the ski fields.....on the bitumen..

People are often surprised to see L-R's on tracks, last summer I found a track that was really muddy, with big moguls, luckily I didn't go on it as when we pushed a stick into it, more than a foot disappeared, we walked some of it and came across kangaroos drinking out of the wheel ruts, the little ones hopped away, but one big one just stood up and looked at us, so we retreated. I went back in winter when it was dry and it was pretty rough, actually one of the few times I've seen the traction control on the D3 come on, while there we came across a guy on a mountain bike who seemed amazed to see us and said "I thought I was doing well to get here on my mountain bike!".
