smooths out the torque pulses in odd firing engines, helps with harmonic balance issues and can help eliminate clutch judder on take off.
some engines have them because they need them others have them because it makes the driving easier and smoother...
in the former case (td5 is marginal for it) if you dont have it bad things happen to the box or engine, in the latter case, meh.
Me I like it for driveline sympathy but dislike it because its another failure point.
I'll have one on a TD5 but not if its being harshly mapped or worked hard.
LOF even do dual mass for the most hyped up Td5
