That's the long, long way. I'd've gone down the Strez and checked out the trains.

The scenic route doesn’t worry me as long as I have the time.

A mate who is FIFO in WA but resident at the Gold Coast was in Tassie for holidays. They arrived back in Melb off the ferry just before NY eve. He was planning to drive the Strez because WA had backdated their NS W hard border to 20 Dec..meaning he'd have to quarantine in Qld for 14 days if they went via the Pacific Hwy. But SA closed major unsealed outback roads north due to flooding. So.... he flew home from Melb. Wife drove kids plus dog home via the Newell hwy. Then Qld demanded Covid testing for all who had been in Vic since 20 Dec!! Thankfully they're all clear... but he still had to wait 14 days in Qld plus proof of test before going back on shift in WA...
I don't envy people trying to juggle FIFO rosters...

The Op's map must be all tar road, surely? Must be a shorter way via the dirt.

Unsealed roads certainly... could save approx 2,000km BUT, lots are closed because of recent heavy rains. The lady has MS, she's restricted in how long she can sit in the vehicle each day.... their vehicle may not be suitable for offroad... and they need a route that's "safe" to travel and stay each evening... difficult times.
