Yep,thats the share market, we generally keep away from it, although have quite a few, and those as well, but I dont know what we paid for them, without digging deep.

SWMBO bought a heap of Bit Coin before the big jump, which was just luck, nothing else.

The BIL,has hundreds of thousands of $ worth of shares, had a heap of these mining shares.

They had been sitting around 22c before Covid arrived, and dropped to 6.0c.We bought a heap, and have just sold them at 12.5c,but that was just arse as well.

Probably still doesnt add up to everything we have lost over the years in shares

We bought a couple of reliable shares for the girls as investments and they have pretty much kept up with inflation and grown a bit with dividend reinvestment.

I bought some Hill End Gold shares years ago (mostly as I have an interest in the area and reckoned they were on to a good thing), $1200.00 investment today worth $15.72...... I don't have the time to understand what I'm doing so best to leave it alone.
We've had better luck with real estate, bought a fibro shack in Queanbeyan when we were first married for $95K, sold it 3 years later for $195K, Bought a block for $68K in Murrumbateman with hopes of building on it that were dashed by the building boom after the Canberra bushfires. Put a shed and an underground tank on it and sold it for $295K.

I've been investing in Aussie companies for several years now. I invest my stock market 'wins' in a couple of investment properties, (or the Defender!!) I do it as a hobby mostly; I enjoy watching global and national events unfold and investing in the companies that I think will benefit, or be in and out of gold funds in times of uncertainty. Sometimes, I will just be interested in companies because of the technology they create like Electro Optic Systems(EOS) for example, who make automated cannons and machine gun systems that sit on top of armoured vehicles but can hit moving targets from moving vehicles from 1000m! And that's not even to mention their space tech... Or an Aussie pharmaceutical company (biotron) that may be part of a cure for aids, or Australian fintechs that are outsmarting the banks and their credit cards with their technology and global reach (afterpay and zip) The best thing is though, I learn so much about these companies and what they do and gain knowledge I otherwise would never.

If you have an idea or notice a pattern unfolding, there is always a way to invest in it. Perhaps, you might think electric cars are the future..so you could look at car manufacturers, parts manufactures, or lithium miners, or battery producers, or copper miners or electricity producers etc. Etc. It's intersting stuff.

After I came out of bankruptcy in the early 90,s, my brother who is a stockbroker started a trading account for me with $5000.
He mostly went for the penny shares in mining to build up enough money so that I could retire in my own house.
Have had a variety of shares over the years,some I made money on, others I lost on.
The years of making money out weigh the years of not making any.

Now retired in my own house and still have shares which we will be selling over the next 2-5 years.
The sharemarket is not for everyone,neither is the property market.

Be comfortable with whatever investments you make and be prepared for the losses if it happens.

The money I put into shares was money I figured would get spent on depreciating assets any ways and I was prepared to loose it. Fortunately my gains have outweighed my losses. Bought Telstra when they floated - they doubled in price and sold 1/2 of my holdings and still have them - unless they fall to 0 I am ahead of the game.
Biggest miss was had an option to buy Cochlear at $3.00 (now around $200.00), but had to sell shares of same value so opted not too. Fortunately they have gone to over $20. So should not complain

Work colleague and his brother play the cyber currency market.

One is doing quite well. The other is now a multi millionaire.
