Well, we're not going in March now - looked the other day before the 'Sale' started and we could have got there and back with the Motorhome for just over $1,000 - including paying for the vehicle. Same dates today with 'Free' vehicle - $1,400 and the price goes up $10 every page you click on as the prices go up, so pulled the pin and will go another time. Fares and cabin prices up around 30% during the 'Sale' - given the Government is giving them $6M to cover the vehicles, this is just price gouging. Looking at later in the year and it back to just over $1000 again including paying for the vehicle so we'll work out some new dates and book for later on.

Sorry Tassie, no tourist dollars from me at the moment but it does look like you'll get an influx based on how quickly things are selling which I'm sure the traders will enjoy.

Have booked for September now - the cooler weather works for me and the motorhome is toasty and warm with the 5KW diesel heater going - and it was $380 cheaper even after paying $199 each way for the vehicle. Looks like it will be much quieter too - before the School holidays and looks like there’s a lot less sailings so assuming that is due to low demand at that time of the year. 😊👍

When we did Tassie (2019), we arrived a week after the school holiday finished. Still a few tourists (like us) around just not a lot of " little darlings ".

The Don River in Tasmania's north-west, near Devonport, has long been characterised by the whistles and chugs of its railway.

For more than 150 years, trains have travelled along the banks of the river, first transporting coal and then eventually becoming a tourist railway in 1976.
Now the railway's committee has grand expansion plans to extend its current seven kilometre return journey to be more than 60 kilometres, by getting permission to use the main line through to Penguin.


The committee also wants to run the historic train into the Devonport CBD using an existing platform on the waterfront, but is calling for $8 million in State and Federal government funding to make it all happen.
"This is a tourist icon and Devonport, as far as I can see, is the gateway to Cradle Mountain … look at the tourists that come through there. We want to capture those," Don River Railway president Lynn Laycock said.
