Those two are absolute gems, a credit to their entire Nation ( the US ). I heard Freeman in a round table talk ask " why do I have to be African American? I thought I was just an American". I was applauding from here.

Of course nobody would give you an acceptable answer as that could be looked upon as Discrimination, (against you)[bighmmm]
It seems to me that many "so called" aborigines are whiter than white with no sign of any pigmentation. Apparently they just have to "believe" they are & for all I know I could have the characteristic giveaways but not know it. Black Hair? Dunno. No hair? Yahoo I'm in.
Aboriginal Identity: Who is 'Aboriginal'? - Creative Spirits
Yeah shame on anyone that identifies as something that they don't at least truly believe they are.
Pretty good resource/article (jeez should say most of a library it's huge) on aboriginal identity in Australia. You have to kinda make your way through it, some of it goes on a bit of a story with personal interviews and experiences from guests. It is a very tricky minefield, and if you truly did believe that you were aboriginal then you yourself would be the only one that really truly believes it or not. It's not just about getting hand outs, and if it is then again, that's up to the individual to decide with their conscience.
I mean if you can identify openly as being of Aboriginal background and you aren't, then that's pretty ballsy, especially when you have to explain yourself. It wouldn't be just explaining yourself to official agencies and the such, it would be your mates and your family and coworkers etc. People such as yourselves would surely be asking questions and you'd have to back it up at some point I am sure, and if you're really a fraud it would come undone or you'd have to really being doing some backflips to get and keep your story straight.
There's a majority of good people who will make the right choice based on what's right and wrong and if it really were that acceptable and easy to do than why doesn't everyone just do it? I think it's because there is a certain honour to the system, or not ironically if you consider the negative stereotypes of identifying as Aboriginal, and if you rort it then shame on you but I reckon there is a bit of a kangaroo court in our culture to slow it down at least..
You can! You do don't you? I'm pretty sure you do. Don't change the label, there's no need. You're happy with it so there's no issue.
I love when Mark Latham said all these guys identify as girls and this big rant then he says I will identify as something silly and I thought. Well you're just making it a stronger case that it's okay now plus it's pretty reductive of the argument but hey nek topic right. Just identify as yourself
Side note Morgan Freeman is pretty open about racism sometimes. I dunno enough about him, he seems pretty entitled at times but other times he seems pretty cool. I don't really follow people that are famous just for being famous. That quote is great though, the founder of black history month actually said the same sentiment when it was founded in 1969
From these articles he seems to still see race and racism as an issue though I dunno

It's not really up to me and that a bit of a wild card because no one is actually descended from deer in any way but maybe they had some spirit animal or something I dunno. It does get to a point that things get very murky but I would think they wouldn't want to drive a car and would just try to run around on all fours and try to eat vegetation they can only reach by standing on their hind legs and getting it with their mouths?

Maybe if you identified as a native animal of some kind you would be at least protected from being hunted unless you thought it was a good idea to be a kangaroo or a possum in EnZed. Imagine identifying as a feral goat out west someone could strap you to a cart and race you down the main street of Brewarrina
