That's the exact reason I think nationalism is crap. Why should anyone feel ashamed and on the same level proud for the actions of their ancestors? Why do you rarely hear people say I'm proud to be x but not I'm proud of the (bad things) x did to get there? You can't have one without the other in a lot of modern cultures. I mean if you've directly profited from nepotism or inherited something derived from the misery or exploitation of others and you haven't addressed that then sure but you had nothing to do with the actions of your ancestors.
It does put you statistically in a more opportune position in the world and I think to a degree we should count that as part of our inheritance but what you do with that is up to you really isn't it. There's a lot of luck involved just to be popped out of a man or a woman's vagina in any place in the world (thought I'd chuck that one in for yous 😂 ). Plus British history is pretty insane they've been invaded and repopulated and on the verge of alcoholic decimation you'd have a pretty interesting dna test result that would surprise most people i reckon
