Not this little black duck. I find it an offensive word and I don't use it. I'm Australian.

The thing about the C word is that I hear many more women using it than men nowadays. It's a funny old world...
Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap.

This is the sort of stuff Mr Tins and I are talking about, people trying to change stuff that does not need changing. Trying to put racial and bigotry undertones on things that never where or intended to be racially, culturally, sexually or anything else biased. It should not be change for change sake, not everthing is black and white.
Am I allowed to say that?
Yes you can say that lol! But, all the characters in spyvspy are white? (Edit sorry you did say that) They only dress in different coloured outfits.

I totally agree, but I also don't think that everything is that simple. Some things definitely do have racial, cultural or sexually divisive reasons behind them, some have actually just come into it by accident to a certain degree.

Coon cheese is a great example, it was never meant to be offensive at first I don't believe. There is a time when you have to say, why is it necessary to have that name though. It wasn't even named after an Australian and certainly no one that was part of their company. William Coon was American and he pioneered the cheese making process they used.

I said before about candy cigarettes called fags, why did we need to change them? They change the name to FADS before they thought that selling fake candy cigarettes to children was a bad idea! The connotations behind the word became more current and offensive. Look at some of the words that the yoofs of today are coming up with. It doesn't take long for words to be repurposed and used in a different or sometimes derogatory way. If you kept calling a race of people a bunch of spanners and they were down trodden, eventually the word spanner would be offensive.

Homosexuals started calling themselves gay, people started calling each other gay as an insult. They called themselves queer, people started using it as an insult. If gay people started calling each themselves legends, there'd be some Aussie guys that would be spewing but they'd end up calling each other a legend as a derogatory slur. Get out of here you bloody legend. It doesn't matter what the word is, it's about it being used in a negative way and accepted socially what it currently means I think.

I know there's a lot of people that think it is incredibly offensive and unnecessary word to use, but on the whole you must admit that it is a very acceptable term to use in Australia, especially compared to America where it is usually used towards women first. It does also depend on how you use it. I was generalizing though, sorry!

I don't believe that to be the case. When I was young, in a different life, cigarettes were called fags. The confectionary ones of the same name even had a red end to simulate the glowing tip. I believe it was the Anti Cancer Council that lobbied against the name Fags. Don't think it had anything at all to do with the homosexual community . A homosexual friend of ours, long dead sadly, often referred to himself and others as 'fags' or 'queers', and hardly ever used gay, which he found offensive to the language.

But that's the point mate. If we don't watch out the language will be dumbed down to have no nuance at all, no colour. Because every word will eventually offend someone.

If we aren't careful, 'they' will bring back eugenics, only it will be white heterosexual men that are forcibly sterilised.

Apparently, Black Charlie was a white man with dark skin, so I have been told by a farmer friend who lives in the area and knows the history.

You can't be a black duck anymore Ron, you will have to be a rainbow duck.

Remember, baa baa black sheep is now baa baa rainbow sheep. And we don't want to get PETA offside by vilifying black ducks.
