PETA's plea to stop using insults like 'pig' sparks fierce debate

PETA's plea to stop using insults like 'pig' sparks fierce debate (yahoo.com)

A call to stop the use of animal names as insults has been met with fierce reaction online.

The latest plea from PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) argues that calling someone a “chicken” when they’re scared, or a “sloth” if they’re lazy “perpetuates speciesism”.

“Calling someone an animal as an insult reinforces the myth that humans are superior to other animals & justified in violating them,” PETA wrote on Twitter.

“Perpetuating the idea that animals are sly, dirty, or heartless desensitizes the public and normalizes violence against other animals.”

I suppose PhillipA we should use those expressions before they are banned.

    mad as a cut snake
silly as a dog with two dicks
flat out like a lizard drinking
    more hide than a buffalo
    full as a bull
useless as tits on a bull
busy as a cat covering faeces on a concrete yard
happy as a cat in the dairy
grinning like a cat in the canary cage
staggering about like a bloke with bull ant in his boot
sleepy as a pithed blue tongue
head on him like a racing tadpole
    proud as a peacock
    slippery as an eel
    fat as a Norwegian seal
    brains of a gnat

Yes. It's only white, middle aged heterosexual paint that is under threat.

IMO the title of this thread is an oxymoron. PC has ALWAYS been mad. I won't have a bar of it.

See what happens when people get bored....

Unions did the same... fought for workers safety and conditions and pretty much achieved it in short order.
Now they’re just another leech on the workers wallet with very little substance.

Some things should run their course and then end.

Hmm, chickens run away and are scared easily, sloths move slowly, seems like fairly apt descriptions IMO although I wouldn’t use them myself - chicken is more of a children’s saying anyway.

PETA don’t do themselves any favours with BS like this.

Anyway we all know PETA stands for People Eating Tasty Animals... Political correctness gone mad
