especially when you have to explain yourself.
Nobody is allowed to ask. You are not allowed to ask why someone has a disabled parking sticker when there seems to be nothing wrong with them. You are not allowed to ask me why I don't wear a face mask. I have 2 exclusions, and not even the Police ( in Vic at least ) are allowed to ask me what they are. You are not allowed to ask why a "female" swimmer has a bulge in "her" knickers. As was so clearly demonstrated in the idiotic QUT case a few years back, discrimination against Anglo-Saxon students was rife, and the complainant is whiter than me, but she identifies as ATSI, and cannot be questioned about it.

If I decide to identify as female, can I then go into Curves or Ferndale? If I decide to identify as a five year old child would anyone be comfortable with me hanging around the primary school? If i decide to identify as a cosmetic surgeon are you happy with me doing a boob job on your sister? ( Yeah, that last one is a little ridiculous)

Err, once you've been here a bit longer you'll know whe I'm taking the ****. The question was mostly tongue in cheek, but there IS a serious side to it.

As for Freeman, well he's a highly paid Hollywood actor. Of course he comes across as entitled sometimes. It's part of the job description. But when he means it he means it. Unlike the Pitts, DeNiros and DiCaprios of this world, he ain't virtue signalling. Born a black kid in 1937 in Tennessee and raised in Mississippi he can't have had it all his own way.

Oh, I dunno. If you listen to Woody Allen's 'Moose" skit you'd think deer could be anything they wanted to be..

( The following contains a humorous reference to Jews. Seeing it's being told by a Jew it shouldn't be a problem unless we have really lost it ).

Yeah shame on anyone that identifies as something that they don't at least truly believe they are.

Pretty good resource/article (jeez should say most of a library it's huge) on aboriginal identity in Australia. You have to kinda make your way through it, some of it goes on a bit of a story with personal interviews and experiences from guests. It is a very tricky minefield, and if you truly did believe that you were aboriginal then you yourself would be the only one that really truly believes it or not. It's not just about getting hand outs, and if it is then again, that's up to the individual to decide with their conscience.

I mean if you can identify openly as being of Aboriginal background and you aren't, then that's pretty ballsy, especially when you have to explain yourself. It wouldn't be just explaining yourself to official agencies and the such, it would be your mates and your family and coworkers etc. People such as yourselves would surely be asking questions and you'd have to back it up at some point I am sure, and if you're really a fraud it would come undone or you'd have to really being doing some backflips to get and keep your story straight.

There's a majority of good people who will make the right choice based on what's right and wrong and if it really were that acceptable and easy to do than why doesn't everyone just do it? I think it's because there is a certain honour to the system, or not ironically if you consider the negative stereotypes of identifying as Aboriginal, and if you rort it then shame on you but I reckon there is a bit of a kangaroo court in our culture to slow it down at least..

I guess that is the reason that I don't tick the box at the end of the day so I'll never never know. Me & my old dad had broad noses (not pugilstic ones, just a bit broad) & I have Blue Eyes (two of them) No, really. I could have been a standin for Paul Newman I have been told. In his earlier Acting Days not his Dead ones you understand.

Trying to say when he was at his prime? 😂
Well man it's up to you ay if you look into your history a bit and you find that you wanna be part of whatever it is then go for it. I'm mongrel as and I realized I'm way more patriotic than I thought. I used to think I was less patriotic than other Australians but then I realised I was actually really patriotic but I'm not a fan of nationalism ironically. I understand why people identify with certain parts of their backgrounds more than others and I can see why other people don't get why they do that.

Nice quote - I have always been proud of being Australian but ashamed of my British ancestry - yet I do love my British 4WD.

Love the analogy of being a mongrel. I think this describes most “Australians”.

Next time I am asked I will say I am a Mongrel Australian. Great description.
