    OILS AINT OILS SOL, THEY'RE A MONEY PIT.

    There was a thread here recently re cost of engine oil.

    I just had a service done which (by my request) involved a full engine/driveline fluids test/inspection.

    All fluids were replaced and brakes were flushed, as I am going to be , hopefully , if everyone obeys covid rules , doing around 10,000km bush driving during the year.

    It was a fairly big service including the 5yrs logbook servicings. Actually 10yrs as it was idle for first 5.

    Total costs? $720....yikes.

    The vehicle is now a Mobil vehicle.....every fluid is a Mobil product.

    I wonder if Mobil would be game to warrant me?

    That doesn't seem bad to me considering the labour to change them all, probably half of that cost is the fluid.

    I got charged more than that by an indy just for an engine oil and filter, air and pollen filter and general check over. I shall not be going back there for a service in the future.
    I hate to think what the cost would have been using genuine LR recommended oils especially for the transfer box and diffs as well.

    Must be nice to want everyone to work for a pittance.

    Engine oil - ~$120
    Oil filter ~ $32
    Air filter ~ $95
    Pollen filter ~ $55

    $302 in parts

    Add disposal fee $10

    Allows $438 for labour and overheads.

    Let’s say they allowed 3 hours (a stretch) that’s $145 an hour.

    Would depend on many factors as to if that’s bringing in $70k a year in the guys back pocket.

    I don't want anyone working for next to nothing but I can buy all those items listed for far less at the stealers and the oil at half that price at Supacrap. I would have thought anyone buying in bulk would get stuff like filters/oils cheaper than a member of the public could just purchasing single items.
    Maybe the stealer is "giving back" some of the money I paid when I bought a new vehicle off them.

    I'm not complaining Bob.

    If I had a hoist I might, I'm getting too cranky to be crawling under vehicles. I spent 8yrs under the D2.

    I just spent too long underneath it fitting a hand winch for the spare tyre to replace the piece of crap thing Ford supplied.

    Even up on ramps it wasn't comfortable enough for me.

    It's even starting to become hard work changing a tyre these days.
