What I used to do to improve earthing was to drench the stake with a solution of Epsom Salts (magnesium sulphate) and water. The conductivity of the magnesium gives a better contact with the mass of earth. Worth trying with your remote locations, and the Epsom Salts are harmless, although somewhat alkaline (will cause pink Hydrangeas to turn blue).
