I have a couple of, (hand written in Fireman's scrawl), Fire Station Event Log Books saved from a Skip when the station was demolished back in the late '60s listing the Address & other details of the event. Some of the reasons for the call outs would set them back a Motza by today's Standards.

Most of the calls sent out 1x Station Officer (or a Senior Fireman) + 2 firemen. Today the street would be choked with trucks & gear.

You want false alarms? These books are full of them.


At the same times Firemen were offered cups of Tea by the householder after the job was done. I bet that doesn't happen today. [bigrolf]:rulez:

I gladly paid NZ$110 for each ambulance ride regardless of distance or time of day. I had two trips. First one was across town from the Doctors to Hospital mid-morning and the other from 30min away rural to town hospital at midnight.

First one was a fright. I drove to the doc's after an angina issue in town. Once diagnosed, they indicated an ER visit was necessary. I volunteered to drive to the hospital but the doctor demanded my Land Rover 110 keys and called an ambulance. My wife will tell you I was in ER more concerned about my 110 sitting on the road in front of the doctors in a 3-hour park zone than I was about my cardiac issue. [bigwhistle]

take a ride in a rescue helicopter and you bloody hope you have ambo cover. i think its like 30k

A SIL had her baby at home,not planned.The ambo took the two,Mum and baby to hospital,and charged for two.

Not t quite. Charging/not charging a pensioner is arbitrary at Vic Ambulance discretion,

Perhaps don't rely on your health fund for coverage - it can be limited cover only. Vic Ambulance charges $96.70 for one year family coverage. Cheap as considering the potential outlays.

Even if you do have 'Emergency' cover, there's always inter-hospital transfer cost$, a veritable minefield. Yes, I've been stung for that, when a Dr didn't tick the right box and mine was.... $$$. Free from Dr's Surgery to local hospital, but OUCH to the bigger one.[bigsad]
