Water/ gold divining, RU a sceptic, or believer?

Bob Biggs has had a nose for gold since he was a teenager when he worked underground on Western Australia's historic Gwalia mine before it closed in 1963.
    Key points:

    • Retired pastoralist Bob Biggs describes himself as a self-taught gold diviner
    • The 84-year-old began divining for water almost 50 years ago after reading books on the subject
    • Sceptics say diviners are "pretty genuine" but all have failed to prove their abilities under test conditions

Now 84, the retired boilermaker and pastoralist is one of only a handful of water diviners remaining in WA.
But Mr Biggs, who now lives in Mundijong in Perth's outer suburbs, is also a self-described gold diviner.
He readily admits that "99 out of 100" people are sceptics who brush off the bush art as a parlour trick.
"When I tell people I divine for gold, they say 'it doesn't work' or 'it's bull****'," he said.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Water/ gold divining, RU a sceptic, or believer?

I’m assuming Mr Biggs is the richest man in Australia right? Water/ gold divining, RU a sceptic, or believer?Water/ gold divining, RU a sceptic, or believer?

As for water diving out in the open looking for an underground water source - sceptic. Using 2 wire coat hangers to find an old galvanised water pipe in the backyard - believer, as I’ve seen it and done it. We tried for a long time to find a pipe and a friend bent up 2 coat hangers - we all had a laugh, but after 10 minutes he said to dig around 15 meters from where we thought it was and showed me what he did - I think it is something to do with magnetism when doing this - the location was spot on.

It never works under controlled conditions.

Though diviners will continue to be hired by believers in such powers, and wells will be dug with great precision on spots located by forked-stick folks, these water supplies will not prove that dowsing works. They will only prove that there is a great deal of water down under the earth, and we do not need silly folks wiggling sticks to tell us that.
Divining is a delusion, and must be recognised as such.

As above. Somewhere I have an article from the NSW Irrigation Commission, published in the 1940s, which analysed results from bores drilled on divined sites and those drilled without divining, and concluded that water divining simply did not work.Screenshot_2021-02-08_07-59-42.png

Edit: Found it, and added the key table from this paper.

    I'm a total skeptic.

It has been completely and utterly debunked many times over.

I think I have heard every good story on or by dowsers.

I do not want to hear another one here.

Or I'll start putting up hi clone stories.

I'll assume that you all believe that dogs can't smell cancer, or old wives knew nothing about childbirth, right? Science proves everything, right? Talk about closed minds. Even the title of this thread is off. Why do I have to be one thing or the other? Nobody can prove to me that divining works, but, equally, nobody can prove, no shadow of a doubt, that it doesn't. It's like believing in God ffs. Can you PROVE it one way or the other? I'll bet the answer is NO.
Why put down a belief that is contrary to yours? Wars revolve around thinking like this, and in fact most wars RELY on thinking like this.
Live and let live, people. The other person is just as likely to be right as you are.
For the record, I have seen dowsing "work". Can I prove it? No. Does that make me believe in it absolutely? No. Was what I saw fake? Possibly. I don't know, and neither do you.

    Come on mate…

Prove the Tooth Fairy isn’t real then, or Santa the DHL prezzies deliverer.

Divining/Dowsing in this country is almost guaranteed to strike water…. Etc.

Seeing evidence to support a case is just that.

    Correlation isn’t Causation.

Took you for having an open mind, Mike. Guess I was wrong. I didn't say I believe. I merely said you, or I, cannot prove it one way or another.

Bringing in the tooth fairy or santa is merely pathetic deflection. I expected better from you.

Not at all. It’s the same basis. Belief.
    Kids absolutely believe.
So do Diviner’s and Believers of super beings.

I’ve seen evidence on many occasions of this coat hanger voodoo not work. And countless tests performed where it failed.

Not a closed mind, rather an analytical one.
