    Bitcoin power consumption

    Surprised to learn today that bitcoin consumes more power than NSW and VIC combined, I've often wondered how much the modern digital age has contributed to overall pollution, with the younger generations constantly blaming the older.
    Of course population explosion is probably the largest reason for accelerated climate change but aside from that being another subject no politician with that agenda would be voted in under the current system.

    It also made it very hard to buy the high end graphic cards as the MINER have often put several in one computer to speed up the graphic/computer intensive algorithms used to mine cypto- It wasn't me Gamer wanting to play the NEW Microsoft Flight Sim and similar graphic intensive games found out the hard way. They got the games but could not get the graphic hardware need to see them

    For a sense of what's going on(and if you haven't already seen it) do a search for Iceland/Enigma/cryptocurrency ... the numbers are totally insane!

    Tens of thousands of GPUs in warehouses .. kind of industrial scale gamers with multiple GPUs in their gaming rig!! ... Iceland is viewed as an appropriate location due to the naturally cold environment to keep things cool all year round.
    Energy is plentiful, much of it renewable .. etc.

    But my understanding of the entire system is that it has the look and feel of a ponzi scheme, and one day will all come crashing in on itself.
    So hopefully one day soon, there will be hundreds of thousands of very high end GPUs up for grabs at giveaway prices.

    It's estimated that the internet itself uses 1% of global electricity production - over 250TWh - at current AU electricity prices (assuming an average of $0.30 per KWh) around $75B per year just in Electricity producing around 62 million tonnes of carbon.
