It was Painful to watch someone work!

Gardening, Casual at $49.50 an hour. it doesn't seem enough

The NDIS allows me a Gardener to move the lawns and do tidy up and maintain it as I can no longer do tis. Heather has been doing it, but they don't want her to spend less time caring for me.

We had a good husband and wife couple from a service provider but were charged travel, which the NDIS doesn't allow for in service providers ,they only allow travelling for services by professionals like health case workers. So we had to get rid of them.

I was sent another Service provider who firstly asked how much money is allocated in my plan, and told me he was a nurse, he also was a chef, could transport me, wash me provide all my care, he had staff etc etc.
He could provide the whole package.

We was going to come on Thursday for a trial to move the lawns and do a tidy up last Thursday, I him at 3PM asking if he was still coming, he said yes, but was running late but was coming. At 4.30pm he arrved an knocked on the door, he asked if he could get some power.

He came with 2 others, his Dad? I think and a young bloke Son?
We then watched as e unloaded an electric Ryobi lawn mower from his car and the young bloke start to mow the front law, the older bloke was i charge of untangling the power lead all the time.

The other guy was going to fill a shallow trench for me, he asked if had a bucket to use to get some dirt from else where in the garden, then spotted my Wheel barrow and used my shovel to do it.

2hrs went by and the front lawn still was not completed. ( It takes Heather 1/2hr to mow the front and mow the nature strip with pushing our petrol mower)
6.30pm he knocks at the door saying he needs to come back Monday to finish the job, but he wont charge us for Monday and bring his whipper snipper.

After he left I rang my Plan manager to address my concern and tell her to ring this guy as I don't want him back. I also wanted to know if I was paying for 3 people for 2 hours, which would be $300 for a substandard job.
Heather took out mower out yesterday and removed it all, and did the 2 other lawn areas out in the back yard. She mowed the 3 lawns in under an hour taking it easy,

Its hard to get gardeners and it seems that they charge big money, I asked around and hearing things like $70 for 10 mins work.
I realise that the need to travel from job to job, and there's fuel and depreciation of equipment etc they have costs. this must reflect in the rates they charge.

I contemplated hiring some one my self, use my equipment .There are people out there that are unemployed, or some one retired who can use some extra money but that is not easy, as they would need an ABN as NDIS will only pay if the has one. they would have to have their own insurance.

I know there's casual workers out the earning mid $20 an hrs out there plus super. Mine would only be 2 hours a fortnight but it's extra money for someone.

is every one getting paid big money these days?

I got a mate who runs a gardening type service, machine range from 70hp 4x4 tractor with a multitude of implements down to push mowers and lots in between. He also has a full range of spray equipment.
He charges a base rate of $25 per hr for the man power and a fee per hr for what ever machine he uses.
So for tractor and slasher it would cost Man power=$25, Tractor and slasher = $55, total = $80 per hr
    cheers

I'd mow his bloody lawns, but I can't jump through the NDIS hoops.

That's the trouble with government funded schemes, every chancer is after the $$$. Remember the insulation scheme?

Its so bad! The prices places charge "ndis fee" is huge! I'm self managed so can go anywhere as long as have an invoice or receipt, as soon as say ndis, suddenly price almost triples for same thing! Only get so much budget to use.
