I've never equated computers with navigation, as a result the old skills have actually improved over time.

Wise. Very wise. I much prefer paper maps. One thing though, GPS can help with the most important thing about using maps, and that is knowing where you actually are. I was taught trig points, contour lines, etc. Who is these days? I want someone to teach me celestial nav, but who has a sextant?

Funny, hey! I can pore over paper maps for ages. Drives the missus a little bit bonkers.

Wouldn't think there'd be too many sextants in Polynesia!

With a sextant, a good chronometer is a big help.

Me too. Maps are some of my favourite things. Even the Melway is a thing of beauty. And it's so much easier to plan a route.

Nah. Got the internet for that...

Picked up a 15 year old BMW 3 series. One owner with only 60 miles on it. Showing its age in places despite the low miles and a rarity to see one this old still on the road. Is strange to be in a car which has a cassette player where the sat nav should be. At least the owner ticked the option boxes and added air conditioning and cruise control both not common for this age of vehicle

Still use the paper map to plan a trip. Not sure how you can plan a trip on a sat nav. Want to go where. Want not just follow the computer. The electronic map comes into play for the last 5 miles and traffic hold ups
