Wow.......I would have thought as a minimum

trainee wage from the start,
Relocation at no cost
Maybe rent assistance for a period
Police pick up HECS

All the above based on a ROSO to ensure they get some return on this investment.

I would assume new recruits would be aware of the conditions of employment

No wonder the ones I met seemed so angry.

My next door neighbour is in the job. He was between jobs when they first arrived here, but he had previously been in the Met in London. Had to go back to basics here, attend the Academy, but he got paid right from the start. Dunno what the $$ were, but paid he was. His previous experience was recognised and now he's a Senior. I have often been vocal in my dislike of the current Victorian Government policies, but we need good coppers, love them or hate them, and Victoria agrees.

Suppose it will all depend on the particular Police force involved.

Have friends here one medical the other Police. We’re looking to move to Australia but decided not to. Her medical was their ticket in and would be recognised on arrival.

Now he is not a junior in the Police and perhaps this may have impacted however seniority and experience was not transferred. Would have had to start at the bottom again.

They both grew up on farms and were looking for a rural not city move

Now he finishes at Goulburn on a Friday afternoon and has to start at his first posting in Northern NSW the following Monday morning. He gets no assistance with the move, he has to either get someone organise accommodation before hand or drive up overnight and then try to find a place to live on the weekend before he starts - noting Real Estate Agents are closed - I guess there is the pub. There is no assistance with the move for either him or his partner and will get a $15per week rental allowance payment when there.

That lack of assistance and the costs to the new recruit is ridiculous - how do they manage to recruit anyone, as with HECS, they have to essentially pay to join the NSW Police.

I suggest he is being posted, transferred infers he is already at an existing station..above might be moot..

Good point. Here is the Police Award 2017, section 7 deals with transfers. It just seems unlikely that a new recruit would be forced to post to an area where there is no accommodation provided/ available. I'm sure the NSW Police service has the procedures in place to help new recruits in their first placement. The answer is , of course , knowing the right people to ask if you are not sure. I wish the young man good luck in his new career, it will be challenging, but also rewarding, I'm sure.
