When I was living in the UK I had a Renault 21 sedan and then a 21 Savanna (wagon) company cars, then I ran my own Savanna on business and last was a Renault Espace.
This was back in the days of 1 year warranty but I paid extra for an additional 2 years.
No real problems with any of them. Espace had a head gasket at about 100,000miles (known problem), a CV joint at about 180,000miles and the alternator wore out at just over 200,000miles (replaced under the extended warranty).
When I left for Australia it was on 212,000miles.
The only complaint at the time was the cost of spare parts.
Not sure what they are like now so I probably wouldn't buy one here.
Most 'estate' cars (wagons) were modified sedan bodies, you could see this from the rear doors where the top swept down but the roof was straight. Renault had different rear doors for the wagon.
Renault ran an advert with a picture showing one competitor with a brick built conversion from a sedan to a wagon, another has a corrugated iron conversion then there was a picture of the Savanna and underneath was written Real Estate !
The only time I had a problem that caused me unexpected time 'off the road' was when one of the twin glass sunroofs on the Espace shattered and covered me in glass fragments (stone thrown up by a car in front !). It was of course winter so I drove home with hot feet and a cold head plus partial deafness from the wind noise.
