    Close call

Heading home after work today feeling great as I just had a win (another story)
    3 streets from home.
Turned left at a roundabout, aout half way through I saw a ball come out from behind a hedge on the righthand side of the road. Instantly hit the brakes (thinking where there's a ball there's a kid who kicked it.Right?!!)
Preoccupied with watching for the kid when out of the corner of my eye I spotted something on the lefthand side of the road swerved the best I could only to hit it with the back left wheel.

It was at this time I thought the worst and was ****ting bricks ( **** I JUST HIT A KID!!!!!!)

I looked in the rearview ....nothing
    Side mirrors........... nothing

I got out to see a dog trying to get up of the road.

Sphincter muscle relaxed about this time.

Tried to do the right thing asked a few of the neighbours if it was their dog or if they had seen it before. nothing.

Kid who kicked the ball got to watch it first hand as the wheel went over the dog. Spent most of the time telling me how great I wasn't for hitting the dog, must have looked different from outside then it did behind the wheel. I told the kid he was lucky it wasn't him instead because had I have had seen the dog it would have been him under the right hand wheel.

The dog didn't belong to anyone so I thought do the right thing and take it to the Vet get it checked out and it maybe microchipped. WRONG!!!!

    THE ****ING THING BIT ME!!!!!

Only fair in hind sight I guess, after all I did run it over.

Dog laid around dragging its back legs for a while then out of no where it jumps up and runs off like nothing happened. Couldn't be sure what sort of dog it was a it's mother was probably the town bike. Although I will say after it's proformance, I think it may have been an Italian Silky looking for a penalty kick.

DO I GET RED CARDED FOR THAT LAST BIT???

Nah, just a yellow, no real intent. Either trained for the Italian team or Japanese team.
I personally dont let my kids kick a ball around much out the front. Too many dickheads doing 100 in a 50kmph zone. Try to always teach them not to run after a ball on the road, to stop and then get it. Reflex does not always allow this to happen. I always am on the look out for kids on the roads. Not totally their fault either, kids up until about 12 do not have good peripheral vision. It do's annoy me when they fly out of driveways on bike's though without looking.
Lucky dog, will be a bit sore for a while.

    Geez Yabbie ,

WELL DONE to avoid a biggie there!!
and good work on the 'rescue effort' too!

If it's any consolation - i too would have gone to help the dog too!
(and then would have had to go and get my tetanus shot after that bite)

    that was a close one!

    Cheers

You did well mate, a dog is far better to hit than a kid. Matt
