    Calling Defender Owners

After discussion with our "magazine that has no name " s Editor,, I have started discussions with the company that runs 4wds out of Kingfisher. I aim to present him with questions from our members about running Defenders FULL TIME on sand.

From my daily perusal of his fleet (edit; of LANDIES,, thanks SEQF ), they are mostly late model Extremes. 4-5 on offer every day and mostly rented every day!

    Now,, PLEASE offer sensible questions,
and after a bit of checking I will offer them
as presented,, he can then reply or not.

how long has he been running his bussiness for?
how long does he keep the vehicles for?
did it go back as far as 300tdi's?
    any advice on the 300tdi's?
does he modify the vehicles in any way?
does he make any "performance" mods, including cooling etc?
what are his main consumables (ie uni joints, tie rods, wheel bearings - what wears out first).
does he strengthen any part of the car in any way? does he think any part of the car needs strengthening?
would he like someone to torture test any new releases for him? - ME

    Very interesting Pedro

The question that first springs to my mind is why Defenders

It very much against the flow for a 4wd hire business to run anything other than tojo's

So the first question I'd like answered is what made them decide to go with Defenders and not 100 series or troopies like every other hire company.

His answer to that may explain or cover alot of peoples other questions

The very very first question that comes to my mind is how does he stop them rusting away on the island?

What tyre/rim combination does he run and what pressure does he recommend to people based on their level of experience?

What recovery gear does he include on the day?

How often does he do a full undercarriage wash?

Does he always obtain new or second-hand Defenders?

What service schedule does he stick to and what oils does he specify?

he probably gives them the sump oil anti rust treatment under the body and thru the chassis.
    i've seen them up there about eight years ago. probably does it for;
    A. the constant 4wd
    B. the aluminium body
    C. the load capacity
    D. the overall durability.
the toyos don't last more than a couple of years, possibly even rust out before the lease is up.
