X2.
Two other Australians to do their people proud are Scott Boland, of Ashes cricket fame, and Ashleigh Gardner, the first indigenous player to be awarded the top gong in Aus. women's cricket, the Belinda Clark award. Ash nearly didn't return to tennis, but then she started coaching old ladies and children after school, and found her mojo again. The AO win has started a resurgence of tennis in Qld, with children by the score enrolling in tennis centres around the State. Maybe we'll find another Laver, or Barty, who knows.

I hope she enjoyed the beer, she earned it and hurt no one, drinking it on TV.
And just like that my interest in Womens tennis returns to zero : Ash Barty announces retirement from tennis - ABC News
Bugger, but bloody good on her.
Yeah, shame some of the other old fossils don't take the hint and retire.
Ash is getting married later this year, obviously she will be focusing on married life
Ash said, during her retirement announcement, that she was proud to be Australian; the reality is Australia should be proud of her.
Despite the vast amount of money and numerous accolades and awards she rightfully earned, she remained humble, considerate and respectful. There has never been a hint of controversy or misbehavior in relation to her.
She owes tennis nothing and has the right to retire and enjoy family life.
All the best Ash, thanks for being such an honourable role model and ambassador .
