you'll scrub and gernie and scrub and gernie and scrub and gernie and still find sand. It gets everywhere. besides how much of the car are you going to fish oil.

My theory, If you buy toys play with them. just clean them as best as you can once you've finished playing

Went there with dear old ma & pa many moons ago. They had the car fish oiled at a place in Harvey Bay before going over. Worked very well, we were there a few days, and never had a problem with rust later down the track.
By comparison, our neighbor went there around the same time, didn't bother with the fish oil, and within 12 months there was cancer breaking out everywhere.

Yep as Moose said... hit the wash bay beforehand (one in Rainbow beach as well)... you drive in and it sprays up oil under your vehicle... then after your fun, come back and do it again with water this time and it'll give it a better hosing than you ever could.

I think was $8 for the clean... don't remember how much the oil was.

Last time I went up there, we found a bloke in Rainbow Beach that ran a manual car wash. He had you run your vehicle up on ramps so that it was 7 feet or so off the deck. He then walked around underneath, dressed like a space man, and sprayed a kerosene/water mix up into every nook and cranny there was. The job lasted for around 30 minutes as he was very thourough. He knew what he was doing and didn't spray on parts that could suffer damage. The kero left a nice oily slick on all the undercarriage components. Cost around $70 if I remember, but it got years-worth of crap out.

I used to spray underneath and through the doors etc with a 50:50 mix of kero and diesel. On my 4th Land Rover to date with no rust problems with the previous 3. Number 4 has not been on the beach yet as I think I have had enough of Fraser for now. I used to wash underneath well on return, let it dry for a week, then respray with oil/diesel mix.

A mate of mine has a Landcruiser that spends many trips per year on Fraser and he does the same although he puts on much more than I did. I have seen 1 year old hire Nissans at Rainbow Beach that were rusted out everywhere.

Oil is a great protector. Just have a look under your Land Rover and everywhere there is an oil leak there will be no rust .

Hope you enjoy Fraser. It is not as good as 20 years ago as the rangers really limit what you can do and where you can go. I guess that is needed as every man and his dog has a 4x4 these days. 20 Years ago just getting to the top end of the Island was a mean trip and you could drive for 3 hours without seeing anyone .

I don't know how much it costs to get it "fishoiled" but you can get 4 litres fof Fishoilene rom Bunnings or somewhere for $50 plus one of those pumper spray things for about $5 and do it yourself. Just mix it with a bit of turps to thin it down a bit, put some old overalls and a paint mask on, and crawl under there and have fun spraying everything you can. I did it on an old Hilux I had - you'll be amazed at how shiny it looks underneath afterwards.

Mind you, don't expect any "relationships" with the missus that night - you'll smell a bit "fishy" for a couple of days

Fishoil is best for internal cavities only as otherwise sand will stick to it and be an eternal remininder that your car has been on the beach.

Oil is OK underneath for short term protection but dont get it on rubber suspension bushes as it will eat them. Probably better to buy cheap engine oil and thin it with kero/diesel as used sump oil can be corrosive itself due to acids from combustion byproducts.

Oops, should have mentioned to mix oil with kero or diesel. Not 50:50 kero diesel! I'm not thinking well at present. Maybe I need a trip to Fraser after all !
