Hmmmm, how far west?
Hi All
I’m a member of ShedWest men’s shed, in Brisbane.
The Committee is looking to establish new, additional activities. I’d really like to hear from any men’s shed member whose shed undertakes vehicle restoration.
Thanks in advance

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
That's not west, but a nice area. Probably wouldn't appreciate me slumming it in a mere D2.![]()

No Doug I'm not a shedder but the concept interests me. I didn't mean to infer you were snobs, just having a go at myself and my deep blue, collar background.
If one can't laugh at oneself, one has no right to laugh at others, regardless of how innocuous it is intended.![]()

Anyone who is prepared to say gooday to anyone else, help them clean up after a job and be civil about it would be welcome at any shed.
Knowledge is gold, ability to show/impart is platinum.
All shedders are mates regardless of background. Some get along better than others but are still welcome.
All can learn something.
Different sheds have different activities, charge different subs. Some chaps belong to multiple sheds.
Some sheds have female associates etc. Lawyer or unemployed, handicapped or surgeon- no difference.
Go along, chat and do nothing practical, or create a puzzle from scratch, build furniture, whatever.
I went to the Dural mens shed (north west Sydney area) to deliver 'project materials' before we moved out of the district. I believe they do a bit of car restoration. Chris Thomas was then in charge, and may still be. 0402 478 498
Don.
If there are a couple of you in a locality it would be worth talking to Men’s Sheds to see if they could assist you with a site they are a great organization
I am a member of the Altona Mens shed. They have "restored" at least 3 Morris Minors (803cc and 2x 1000cc) and are currently doing a Mini Deluxe. I offered to help. as I have owned, or rebuilt or raced many(probably over 100) Morris cars when I was young, However there is a "pecking" order and as I was told what would you know? And that was from a former GMH employee!. I say "restored' but rather they are done on the cheap in some areas. My view on restoration is either you keep to dead stock original (with a view to reliability as I will explain) or you modify to buggery. One motor was rebuilt and instead of replacing the oil pump with a 5 vane hi flow pump they put the old 3 vane pump back in because, as I was told, there was nothing wrong with it. I tried to explain that oil pressure should be about 50-60psi unlike holdens that were in old days about 30-35. Told what would I know. 2 months later the new owner blew the motor because of low oil pressure. Some old buggers just dont want to listen to the new breed. However the Altona shed has great equipment. There workshop is the former EPA testing site, so has truck pits hoists, lathes and all the equipment. Hence my reason to join just so I can use the equipment that I dont have in my own garage!.
