Covid Mk ll

I went for a drive to the City yesterday and it was startling to see the bars and restaurants in my area all full of unmasked people, particularly when the local pool is still imposing extreme biohazard protocols.

One of my most bizarre experiences during this whole thing was during the second lockdown last winter when I went for a swim and they were only permitting one person per lane - it was night and pitch black, it was freezing cold, the floodlights were on to illuminate the pool but the pool and gym buildings were all dark, the city was eerily silent and there was a masked and very rugged-up lifeguard standing at the end of the pool. I'm guessing that he would've very reluctantly jumped in to help if I'd got into trouble. My allotted lane was actually the fast lane but since I was the only person in it I simply went at my own pace. But it felt like I doing 60kms in the right lane of the freeway. I went up and down the lane on my own for my allotted 30 minutes and then all 8 of us left following the separated entry and exit paths that had been laid around the pool.

So many odd memories. People trying to run or ride in masks. odd to bizarre conspiracy theories. Sad mental health and tragic health issue delays (My Mum included sadly) She is still kicking and trying to live despite the challenges cancer brings.

The one per lane was not an issue the last time I got to see mum and dad. Swam straight out from the Port Fairy Surf Life savers club and along alone and in heaven a km off the beach for an hour of bliss. Body surfed back in to complete a joy plus.

Giving out the government supplied Vaxed badgers we got two weeks ago. I happily am suggesting they might be collectors items at some time in the future is often seen as very odd or funny.

Some do not seem to see the extraordinary even if it bites them and is free? I mean to say treasure the swim you did. You made some history! [thumbsupbig] Bravo Zulu

FYI, one of my family who's immunocompromised will have a booster in the next couple of weeks. Would probably be amongst the first to do so I'd suspect, given that for most people it's supposed to be 6 months after your first.

All is not good in Europe. The message from the UK is " get your booster shots". Waning immunity, first discovered in Israel, is a worry in the UK as 4.5 million double vaccinated people are said to be at risk of hospitalisations & deaths , with the slow take up of booster shots.

How anti-vaxxers in NZ are foreign to the Maori world, and are indeed, anti Maori, who go against the core tradition of Whakapapa , and the right to claim mana tupuna. In truth anti-vaxxers are scammers and conspiracists, who in time will be the last vectors for the virus to spread. The great veterans of the struggle for Maori sovereignty, such as Hone Harawira , Tame iti, Tina Ngata, and Debbie Ngarewa are solidly pro-vaccination.

That's an anti-vax site.

FYI, as has been discussed before, no-one promised that the Covid vaccines would prevent infection, just limit illness. Vaccines like AstraZeneca do in fact limit infection to some extent but they don't offer "sterilising immunity".

I would rather get a high level of protection from a vax than spin the wheel to get a high level of dead/long Covid/possibly a bad cold level of symptoms (that we know of...even those with low symptoms may have lingering issues over many years). And it isn't as though statically you are unlikely to be infected (especially if not vaccinated). I can't believe people don't see the value in being vaccinated. Qld unfortunately has more paranoids than any other state...partly because we didn't see first hand what havoc Covid can wreak on the elderly, immunocompromised, and the unlucky (including the young). Get a jab and stop spreading disinformation sold as an answer to 'fake news' (Trump was the worst thing to happen to the Western world in decades. He gave voice and life to conspiracy theorists). I have a very close rellie, who does 'Medical Imaging'. His descriptions of several chest images he's done on Covid patients are not suitable to repeat, on this family friendly forum.

Let's just say that I'm glad I got in early for my vaccination. :banana:
