Hi Florida USA has a similar population to Australia. Currently 52% fully vaccinated (the same real number Australia will be at when we reach the fabled 70% and 80% of eligible vaccinations).

Florida has a liberal gov with very relaxed covid restrictions and 227 DEATHS per day!

We are being taken for fools by our leaders in Australia.

I am now confused and frustrated. PM a day ago (National Cabinet ). Said kids 12-15 will be vaccinated by the end of the school year. December? I really hoped it would be with the 16 -39 years added already ( state) or 30 August by National Cabinet.

Both the last two added a few thousand people 16 and older who want my place to help. We get to order once a fortnight for delivery the following week. We had just ordered when all the changes were made. We cannot edit or add to meet that new demand from 16-30 year olds and next order period mean delivery cannot occur before mid Sept.

Never fear I am getting some branded band aids which I bet arrive to late to be used for anyone getting a vaccine!

Northern Territory announced they are going to vaccinate all 12-15 year olds now. Nsw is mixed and here its is only for certain medical conditions. Its all as clear as mud as no one seem to be on the same page on most of the issue impacting on the people trying to give you vaccines.

If a Army guy is in charge I wonder why other boof heads are out shooting there mouths off.

…except we won’t end up with the relaxed restrictions seen in parts of the US.

Restrictions and lockdowns will still be used by the Australian states even at 70% and 80%. Plus we will hopefully get over 90% vaccinated and this will be extended to 12 yr olds and above.

So the outlook should be a lot more positive if we can keep encouraging all eligible to get vaccinated as soon as they can.

given floridas older population, would be interesting to see the death demographics.

Florida has an older demographic, and a low vaccination rate, plus state laws against anyone mandating vaccination or mask wearing, although the state has just lost a court case against a cruise ship company that is using "everyone on board is vaccinated and passengers have to be too" as an attraction.

However, despite the fact that they have a fairly low vaccination rate for the state as a whole, I have seen reports that among the older demographic, the rate is above 90%, although since many of them won't admit it for political reasons, the actual percentage is uncertain.

Most of the deaths reported "since the first case" would have been before the current outbreak. And, of course they are of the older population pre-vaccination.

Mayo Clinic shows Florida at 51.7% vaccinated and 87.2% for age 65+.

Worth noting that statistics for recent deaths show a steep drop in deaths over the last fortnight despite no corresponding drop in cases prior to this, suggesting incomplete data. There have been similar unexpected changes in data previously for Florida with obvious corrections later, notably on July 15th.
