[QUOTE=DiscoDB;3115304]Portugal is the country to watch. Close to 100% of eligible people vaccinated giving over 85% of the total population vaccinated.
Daily case numbers still around 500-800 per day and deaths still around 6-10 per day. They also paid a high toll to get to this point with 10% of the population infected and 18,000 deaths.
18,000 dead! Bloody hell, it does not even bear thinking about that many!
Sort of a medium size Footy crowd I suppose.

"Tale of the tape" as they say in fight language - the numbers as the rest of us say. Auckland is going stir-crazy and non-compliance is showing.

From Covid-19 Delta outbreak: NZ'''s grim new record - 94 cases, seven in Waikato, PM blasts level 3 rule-breakers - NZ Herald
Ninety four cases today. Our highest one day number. Eighty seven in Auckland and seven in the Waikato. All the ones in Waikato are linked to a known source but there were 53 unlinked 'mystery cases' in Auckland.
Our vaccination details look pretty average at this point in the pandemic/latest outbreak.

So far just keeping to myself. Tried to pay a bill twice this morning but walked away twice at long queues with no social distancing. Figured I would figure out how to do the transaction online and did it ... no social distance breaches online...![]()
Aside from this shops chaos in a queue, everywhere else I have gone lately has good compliance here in the lower North Island. I have been hiring a bit of machinery lately and all other operators I see at the machinery depot are good with compliance. Scanning in and masks pretty everywhere I go. Farm supplies store, building supplies, machinery hire all have good levels of compliance.
I see in the news that a fully vaccinated ex US Secretary of State - General Colin Powell died of Covid.
As mentioned in this article the anti vaxxers will use this to support their cause.
Right-wing media figures dishonestly use Colin Powell's death to question Covid vaccines - CNN
Unfortunately here in Aust if you believe the politicians, vaccinations are the magic bullet where the medicos do not make such claims and correctly advise efficacy is not 100%, as many politicians seem to push, but depending on the vaccine is much less, particularly for the elderly and the sick. Often with this group, the vaccinated Covid sniffle is still enough to push them over the edge - this is highlighted in the ACT where the majority of ACT resident death this outbreak have been in a nursing home palliative care unit - introduced by a fully vaccinated health care worker.

Thats why we will all need booster shots soon,as has happened in other countries.
It will be the next thing they are on about,as soon as everything opens up and many double done start getting sick.
High risk groups have already started with the third shot in Qld,dont know about other states, but i presume they are recommending the same.
Read his book years ago. Wasnt he in his 80's and had cancer...died of C19 might be a stretch. But that is the way the US and others tend to report deaths now. Lots of 90 year olds 'dying' of Covid19...suggested correlation in some cases?. I am not suggesting that Covid 19 cant be a contributor as it certainly can be but i just wonder to what extent it contributes in some cases. There have always been a significant number of elderly with consumptive heart failure and COPD etc who die of respiratory distress naturally with those underlying conditions. I am far from a conspiracy theorist but would like to see the drill down detail of a lot of the deaths in elderly where Covid19 is noted on the Death Cert. Cheers

True but the reality is that even with his cancer he would not have died today if he did not have Covid. Same as the elderly in the ACT nursing home palliative care unit - they were going to die but if they did not catch covid they may have lived a bit longer, so it was Covid that caused them to die at the time they did.
