Vaccination passports is the only measure that will free up interstate travel, but even then, if I were Premier of a covid free state I wouldn’t be opening border to NSW until 80%+ of WHOLE population of my State is vaccinated double dose.

The cobbled together Federal stroll-out of mRNA vaccines is picking up pace yes, but outside the cities it is way behind; and if almost out of date allocations are being sourced from other countries (Singapore), the overall procurement strategy remains an unmitigated shambles without guarantees. …will there even be enough doses for a full 80% double dose by Xmas? What about children? As it is, the promised 16+ Vaccine appointments mostly aren’t available until November.

We are being conned with the saccharine sweet lingo of pretend freedom marketing spin.

In reality, NSW could remain isolated from the rest of the country until 2022. It’s potentially more likely for NSW peeps to be able to travel overseas than interstate.

Only vaccine passports will eventually enable travel but given you can still transmit covid if you’re vaccinated and quarantine remains another disaster in most states, it’s unlikely to be freely open National borders for a long time to come IMO. This is real. I don’t think we’re anywhere near it being over.

That is correct Ted - states are not going to open any time soon.

At best, within NSW and VIC as the rate of reproduction approaches 1 we may be allowed some more freedom like doubling of the time we are allowed to exercise or increasing the distance we can travel from home. Small changes which will do a lot for morale and mental health.

By the end of November almost all states should be at 80% vaccinated, and providing the supply can keep up with demand, we could hit 90% by end of December.

The measures now in place in NSW and VIC are starting to slow the rate of growth, but the peak is still potentially 3-4 weeks away. This was the same experience from the Victorian 2020 long lockdown.

The effective R value by the end of September will tell us a lot. So now we just need to stick to the plan, encourage as many to get vaccinated as we can, and have some faith that we have got this under control.

In other more positive news, every state has now made it to 50% single dose and 30% double dose!

It'll be interesting to see how the shorter period between doses for Pfizer factor into helping increase the rates of vaccination. When looking at some of the time lapse vaccination distribution maps, it's easy to see how the 12 week wait between doses for AZ delayed the start of people getting fully vaccinated.

"On, on!" as a certain running club would shout!

The other issue is that there should be a heap of people who were vaccinated with AZ back in April and May who are now eligible for their second shot (as it's now over 12 weeks) so that double-dose number should increase rapidly.

Both my wife and I have now had our second dose and two out of three kids have had Pfizer first dose - one was vaccinated about a month ahead of schedule because the GP had a spare dose, so it's worth letting your GP know that you're available.

On my hands and knees asking for extra 600 doses. I wonder if any flexibility will be shown. I got right up the supply chain of command with several levels all happily cheering my request before tossing it up a level. Gosh the games we play.

Trying to get VCE students done next week or so working with another practice which as no vaccines at all meaning I can divert a lot of people to their currently unused resources in the next few weeks. Evil of me as I do not have to do the work

The next ordering period give supply at the end of Sep just when all the fun starts for VCE students.

Anyone betting? I am not a betting type. Hopeful perhaps

On a zoom meeting this morning with my team - one of them is struggling to get their teen vaxed in time for the exams - seems to be causing them more stress than their VCE at the moment by all counts.

He looked completely strung out - his phone rings constantly 10 plus hours of the day and he’s home Schooling 3 kids from year 8 to VCE. His Wife is a Nurse so is at work most of the time leaving him to battle on.

Can’t imagine the stress he’s under. Covid Mk ll

September will be a big month - should see close to 80% having received their first dose, and over 50% having received both doses by the end of the month.

Same issue here- It is the extra stress I have already managed to remove that stress for dozens of students. Next two weeks I am in overdrive for those I can help directly. My request is for people outside our practice we cannot possibly help. Suspect we might cover a few 1000 students if I and another few doing the same as me get the extra.

Honestly not sure if the exams will even go ahead. The request for the extra 400- 200 are already ordered for the next two week cycle is for others out side my ability to assist. If the exams go ahead I my pretty please which included honest bits like "On Thursday August 19 after we had completed our order on CVAS for 200 Pfizer vaccines. The Prime Minister via “Channel 9 news reporting that 16-39 will open from 30th August”
The news from the Prime Minister was followed by a Victorian Government announcement 16-39 year old’s could book for Pfizer vaccine from 8am Tuesday 24th of August at state vaccinations centres
Had we been aware of either or both issues our order for 200 Pfizer vaccines expected for delivery 6 to 10 September would have been for 600 doses (100 Vials)
We have been swamped by demand by 16-to-39-year old’s specifically by the announcements we had not forewarned to enable planning for."

I have asked nicely. I may be cruel if they refuse to help. The famous 'THEY' who are they
