    Nice to have been told

About a week ago I visited the local clinic as I was having signs of blood pressure. I don`t have a regular doctor as I don`t go that often. Any way the doctor that I saw put me on blood pressure tablets. I`m home for a while on holidays. So today I`m having lunch which consist of a sanga that has tomato and there is a banana to eat as well. Whilst having lunch I look up these blood pressure tablets.
Hmm I think. First line reads no bananas or tomatoes or any high potassium foods are not good. Slowly look down to my lunch.
There was no info that came with the tablets and the doc never mentioned any possible issues to look out for. Have been having a banana a day. I was also told to lose weight, which i have been doing. So when I lose a bit more I will get of these tablets.
    Had my lunch any way.
    Cheers Hall

I've been on a particular medication for a few years. A month's supply comes in a box that used to (annoyingly) contain a leaflet, explaining the drug, it's possible side effects, what it is affected by, etc., etc..
A few months ago the leaflet was no longer included. A regulatory change I assume.

Doctors are like mechanics I reckon, there are some very good ones and some that do the bare minimum. And sometimes knowing enough to call BS is also an advantage.
Not Doctors but we took our small white dog to the vet yesterday as he has been losing weight and we figured he's winding down so we're looking to make his old age comfortable without stressing him out too much. Diagnosis came back as kidney disease after $350.00 worth of blood tests but the kicker was that the vet reckoned he was dehydrated and the tests would be better taken after a night in the surgery on a drip.
So would the result be likely to be different after a night on a drip? "probably not"
You can see how much he is shaking just being here how do you reckon he'll go overnight with a drip inserted? "oh we'll just sedate him"
And how much would this cost to get the same outcome? "at least $500.00"
So what would you do when you get these additional test results? "recommend a kidney friendly diet"
And you cant do this anyway? "we can sell you some very expensive dogfood", "Oh it looks like we have to order it in, there's none in stock"
Oh well, just give me the bill......

Came home and googled the correct diet, he's 90% there, we just needed to cut out the commercial treats and found out that adding eggs and omega 3 oils was a good thing.

Not particularly satisfied with our experience with that particular vet, although others at the surgery have been great over many years.

    Regards,
    Tote

Both my specialist and real doctor, as opposed to my prescription only doc, print off an MDS for each prescription written.

There is your problem Ian. Printed! OMG I hate that paper. Lost, expired ...... repeats cannot be found.......

Move up to E-scripts. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better. I know a grey nomad a long way west of Darwin whose phone went BING and the chemist their handed the required stuff over. A quick chat about our wish to be there and the weather in the middle of Melb Winter and Lock down

    On the Meds.

Each of your doctors has a cool link to MIMS consumer and the unreadable Medical only version. Its part of there sotware or is at my place at least. Ask them to print or email you the data for your meds. It is Very very concise and better than dr Google

It would drive me bananas not to be able to eat them and skipping my tomatoes on toast with olive oil and parsley would be the last straw. Id see if there is another medicine option

James, first stop after any of the medics is the chemist, who keep my 'scripts and repeats.
