what you say makes perfect sense......
but then again....our country is being run by abbott and costello.......
When we were on holiday last week i was watching the news one night and the finance segment came on and they had said the price of fuel was set to rise again (which it is doing) because of the missile tests in North Korea, the finance guy actually said that the price of fuel could rise as much as 4.5c/L for every missile that was/is launched.
My question is HTF does a missile test in Korea affect the price of fuel in Australia. Korea doesnt have any oil. Is it just me or does this sound like a pile of crap aimed at helping the fuel companies sleep at night knowing we think its not because of their greedy ness that we are being ripped off at the bowser.
Ok rant over someone elses turn with the soap box.![]()

We had a spokesman from Caltex saying that they only get 1.5 cents per litre profit while explaining away 1.5 billion? dollars in profit. But hey thats OK!. Have you considered the real villian who says we can't help with the fuel prices.
Little Johnny H.Now I may not have this exactly correct, but!!, there is about 52 cents per litre excise, PLUS 10% GST on every litre for doing absolutely zip. Work it out, they only need to drop the GST and down it goes by 10%. Reduce the excise by a further 10 cents per litre and help reduce the cost of every dam thing that is trucked around the country. They are more greedy than the oil companies, and they don't care! They could cut the cost by 20% tonight!

Once upon a time it was the price of gold that reacted to such events.
Hey don't they call crude oil "Black Gold"![]()
The fundamental fact is that oil production has peaked and the slope is now a steep and slippery one.

I recall reading not that long ago that Australia was actually self sufficent in oil production but then we send it off shore for refining and that is where we get caned with price increases - theoretically we could be like the saudis, 20cents a gallon/litre (can't remember). This is of course ignoring the fact that the oil companies want to make a profit..

We sell our gold, wool, wheat, beef, cotton, coal, iron ore and petroleum in an international market. Refining is a small part of the equation.Originally Posted by jtktread

I agree John Howard and the federal government are to blame in the end, when the GST came in all taxes were to be removed and then 10% added as the GST, that didnt happen with fuel, as i am sure with a lot of things, we should be paying alot less than a dollar/litre at the moment but howard would loose to much money.
I also read that were are self sufficient in oil, there is most probably alot more untapped around the place aswell, but hey what can we do.
Its all bull****. Matt
