    YouTube Assists Me Again

    Hello All,

In my ignorance I did not know how the mirror control wires for my VY Commodore's driver's side door card should unplug. The way I got the socket unplugged resulted in the guts of the mechanism flying out. Luckily, I found all the bits in the grass. However, I did not know how to put everything back together and where bits should go. Yes, I hear you say, "when will you learn to put a tarp down under where you are working, so if any parts fall off the vehicle you can find them". I was reminded about that as soon as the first screw fell off and played hide and seek in the grass.

I came inside and went online to find out how much a replacement part would cost. Having found out the cost was reasonable I thought, what the hell, I wonder if there is anything on YouTube and I searched for "VY Commodore side mirror adjustment?"

Well blow me down with a feather - there was clip VY Commodore Side Mirror Switch Fix with "Riles". Stephen Riley was attempting to get the downward adjustment moving on his car's driver's mirror working again. To do this he showed close-ups of pulling the guts of the switch apart, and putting it back together again. Thank you YouTube and Stephen for posting the clip up. My Commodore's mirror control switch is now back together again and working properly.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Youtube has shown me :
    • How to get to a D3 door lock mechanism
    • How to get a D3 steering wheel air bag off
    • How to get a TDV6 oil separator out the easy way (thanks Shane!)
    • How to get to a Golf Mk V door lock mechanism
    • How to get to a Golf Mk V coolant outlet off

I could probably have worked those ones out (and with the oil sep I learned how to do it the hard way), but watching someone else do it the night before the job saved me countless hours of fiddling. Or in the case of the oil separator, it'll save me 3 hours next time. There's lots of others, and to be fair I prefer a good writeup with pictures, but the fact someone has taken the time to make a video is much appreciated.

The mygov toob vid did me no favours linking the medicare mob app to get a vax certificate.

I've gotta say though that I'll have a good search when something daunting comes up and it's great for weird info that can save hours and dollars.

Rebuilding Stihl carbs, tuning chainsaws, how to fix stuff when something goes expensively wrong with D3's and 4's, 5 different ways of playing the theme of Dead Man on guitar.

And finding extraordinary live music performances such as this with FZ and L. Shankar:

Frank Zappa - Watermelon In Easter Hay-1978 10 31 Palladium NYC - YouTube

    cheers, DL
