Yes, imagine if places like Barcelona or Venice only had Land Rover anoraks for visitors...... They'd just see a few people wandering about and sitting in coffee shops (hard to get a decent cup of tea on the continent, after all) reading Land Rover magazines and wondering what the price of Hammerite might be in Rome.
unusual observation that one 4bee.
Barcelona had a campaign to reduce tourist numbers before COVID. In the last 20 years the number of tourists gave massively increased and this has put pressure on locals housing, public services and quality of life. A big part of the campaign was about the amount of Green house pollution these tourists were causing
Venice had these large Cruise ships turning up flooding the place with people who tend not to spend much as they have paid for food, drink and accommodation on the boat. Average spend by a cruise ship visitor was pennies where as someone who stayed spent lots. That said they were saying almost no one lives in Venice as it is too expensive due to hotels buying everything up
3toes , doesn't that sound a bit like our own Gold Coast, although the cruise ship effect hasn't been observed yet since the new cruise terminal in Brisbane really hasn't been used due to covid.
as soon as the cruise ships are allowed to cruise in and out of Brisbane again we may see a massive effect.
the number of cruise ships booked to berth in 2021/2022 was colossal....something around 3 ships/day with something like 15,000 passengers disembarking/embarking.
