    Goodbye

The issue isn’t Google, it is interpretation of the high court ruling around defamation holding site owners to account. With time I am sure this imbalance will be corrected (many states are already making changes to prevent a site owner ending up in the same situation).

Personally I think the entire general chat area should move to a private discussion group. Plenty of defamatory comments about Telstra, AusPost, and other public companies can be found in General Chat that leave Dave exposed if those companies felt it was harming their business model. Goodbye

And there are plenty of LR discussions which are full of slander against JLR, LRA, and even Ford (with respect to the Tdv6). Goodbye. Sometimes it is a rampant Troll fest in some of the vehicle specific and technical discussions. Goodbye

Just look at the comments against the New Defender, or people’s viewpoints on JLR as a company in general. Many of us hate the direction JLR are now going and have said as much. Probably fair to say most AULRO members won’t be buying anything new from JLR. Goodbye

Or what if Ford US decided discussions about engine failures in the D3/D4 puts people off buying the new TDV6 Ford Ranger or was part of the reason the TDV6 in the F-150 was a sales flop and had to be dropped. Goodbye

Perhaps we shouldn’t be allowed to offer any personal points of view, and just stick to sharing knowledge and helping each other out - which is after all the best part of the AULRO community and why most of us signed up in the first place. GoodbyeGoodbye

The secret is to not let the trolls drag you down……(but always stand up to bullies and people who say inappropriate or offensive things).

(Mods - Feel free to delete, edit, or move - only helps to make my point).

P.S love the AULRO forum and never understood why people would discuss technical topics or seek help and advise about their Land Rover on Facebook when you have some of the best experts in the world right here.

An interesting post. No doubt a valid one. But taken to its nth, it means that AULRO should become a sterile, LR only place with no friendship and no interaction unless its LR. I see that there's a case for that, but there is no way I'd pay Dave a sub if that's where it goes.

You have reminded me of something: a show called Fifth Gear, and another called Top Gear. One paid attention to the various attributes of various cars, and the other would get drawn and dragged down rabbit holes about pretty much anything. Which one did YOU watch? More importantly, which one did nearly anyone watch?

I know that Dave is between a rock .... but only a couple of years ago I could say what I felt, in appropriate language, when I wanted to. I don't blame this forum, I blame the idiotic people who watch, or have their bloody algorithms watch, everything I say or post. This crap decides who becomes POTUS ffs.

I have a few LRs. I want to talk to people about them from time to time. Is that now the only purpose of this place?

Personally I think that AULRO has lost it’s way because there isn’t enough technical talk. I came here to learn about LR’s, not to talk about politics, wars, woke, etc.

It is called AUstralian Land Rover Owners afterall..

I used to spend hours on here daily, reading (and learning a lot).

Now I find myself spending more time scrolling through the crap trying to find the LR content.

If people stuck to the LR aspects, I feel that there wouldn’t be much need for censorship..

That’s my 2 cents worth - anyone remember those? 🤣

But you still can just follow the technical discussions if you want. In fact if you do you will probably be happier for it as well

I use the app on an iPad and these are the sections I subscribe to:

I only occasionally check the all new posts to see if anything interesting to comes, but I don’t actively follow. The few general chat posts I do have an interest in I will make a comment on and then follow via the “Participated Discussions” section.

There does seem to be a lot less people with technical problems seeking assistance, and when an occasional new problem does comes up for the brains trust to solve we rarely hear the final outcome (how rude!).

Maybe more people are going to Facebook to complain rather than come here to seek help.

I see your point, and have tried subscribing to various areas.

    BUT - I love all Landy’s, having multiple stretching from a 55 S1 up to a MY22 Defender.

Historically I would read a lot of topics (not all, but most). I would hit new posts and bask in the glory of the brainy people here..

Facebook is horrible for looking up historical posts. Plus it is filled with trolls.

Anyway, I digress. I do not speak for everyone, only myself, but I prefer the technical stuff - not all of the other rubbish cluttering up this fantastic resource.

    Goodbye

Fully agree Grey_Ghost - having had a S2a in the family, and then owning 2xRRC, D1, D2, and now D3 - I used to try and follow everything as well (and occasionally just jump across to the specific sections to reminisce).

Amazingly it has been over a month since anyone posted the need for breakdown assistance (and the last call for help we never heard what happened in the end).

Who would have thought our LR’s would be so reliable these days. Maybe they are still not being driven enough after 2 years of limited travel for many of us and that things will return to “normal” in 2022 - if WW3 does not truly kick off (don’t mention the war). Goodbye

There are over sixty fora and sub-fora here, something for almost everyone. Follow or ignore at your own discretion. There is an area to discuss all lawful topics.
The complaint that a particular subject cannot be discussed is akin to moaning about Myer not selling petrol.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    Not a bad analogy.

Sometimes though it feels more like a truck stop only offering salads because everything else is considered unhealthy.

Yes you are there for the fuel, but sometimes you are really craving for hot chips with plenty of salt and vinegar. Goodbye

Sticking to topic, here's another way to say 'Goodbye'!

Tins, whilst I don't agree with some of your political points of view, you have always offered to help out and have provided me with lots of support along the way.

Having grown up and married someone who makes me more compassionate, I've found that I can have friends that view the world differently. One of my good mates is conservative and right wing. But we share a love of the bush and care about our families in the same way. So common ground is found even though I'm a pinko greeny at heart Goodbye

So regardless of your political persuasions, I find your input valuable and would miss your advice if you **** off. So don't. Goodbye
