I may have just found an uncle's brother's $12000. Just need to check his middle name.

Now, pretty funny. Mostly.
Years back, I had a private detective agency send me a note that they had found an amount of money believed to belong to me. For something like 20%, they’d gratefully help me get it back!
Be ****ed off that I’d lost track of some money, and also annoyed that someone wanted a cut to get it back, I found it myself. Older method back then but now it’s:
Find unclaimed money - Moneysmart.gov.au
For a laugh, I now try to find others money for them, and return it by connecting them to it. There’s also state government sites. Now, you’d think that’d be easy, and they’d be grateful, but have you ever tried to convince someone that you can find them hundreds or thousands of dollars that they “lost”? Sign of the times I’ve even had my email reported as “hacked” to my boss before the owner of some cash could be convinced it was money belonging to their business!
Try your name or your business! It’s fun!

There was a show on TV here a while ago called Heir Hunters. They were businesses that did just this. We’re looking for bigger amounts that they could track down people to help them collect. For a fee of course.
Their were some interesting stories among them which made the show although it was also played on the tension of racing other similar firms to the heirs
The sad part is finding a sum so small it’ll cost more in time and effort to claim it!

For a tale of gross mismanagement, type “Aboriginal” into the search. The amount of money put into failed and mismanaged organisations, then lost, is truly staggering.
Well. Maybe not staggering on the world stage. But to some small community- there’s some large sums!

Hi,
Yep, a Govt website showed a sum of about $30.00 in my name. I had sold all of my shares in a company, and there was a credit too small to buy one more share sitting in the account. So it stayed there, unknown to me.
The paper warfare was going to cost more than the amount, so Consolidated Revenue scored a win.
Cheers
