Ok, so things have progressed a bit - Bean counters have kyboshed a wagon again due to FBT so ****ty ride will continue but there's flexibility around that.

Just went and test drove a Dmax given the Mux is out. Got to say I wasn't expecting great things but apart from a couple of minor gripes I was actually pleasantly surprised. I have driven the new Ranger too - ok but that's off the list for reasons previously described. I've also driven the latest Hilux - it's pretty much the same as the old one with a few minor facelift details so nothing new to learn about them.

So for those looking my take on it is as follows. This is compared to the Hilux as it's what I have and am familiar with. Some of the below is being picky but sometimes it's the small things that can be deal breakers.

    Pros
    More power and more nimble
    Tighter and lighter steering
    Better turning circle (very noticeable)
    Better looking (IMO)
Seat comfort - more adjustments and overall more comfortable

    About the same
    Driving position
    Visibility
    Braking

    Cons
Engine isn't as refined and there is more vibration noticeable
More beeps and bings - which I HATE!!! Thankfully the most annoying one can be turned off permanently.
The noise the indicator makes is annoying and doesn't mute after a delay which the Hilux does
    Drivers window only is auto
Nowhere to mount a phone - rep said you don't need that as it has apple play but I'm not convinced.
1 less cup holder although the main one is in the same location as the Hilux which I like

So, just waiting on a final written quote for 2 of these and fixed price servicing and they may get an order. Convinced the Boss that Silver is the way to go rather than white as well so all going well I should be in the seat of one of these by the end of the year.

23MY Silver Dmax X Terrain - back tray sliding cover thingy will go and an ARB Premium central locking canopy will go on.

Still a few hurdles to get over so let's hope I don't trip over at the last one...

    Hmm,Silver?

We always get white for the work vehicles,or whatever the colour is,vanilla for the Tojo's.

Anyway, decided to get silver for one about 3 yrs ago, never again,it shows every scratch, and as you probably know, vehicles used for work get scratched regularly, that is just a given.

    Anyway,good luck with your purchase

    From my brief MUX experience....

Lane guidance can be turned off with the press of a button but you have to do it every time you start the car.
Auto braking you have to go through a menu so takes a while, again you have to do this every time you start the car.

The auto braking kicked in a few times, usually when someone in front is turning off and you are approaching them knowing that they will be gone by the time you get there.
I've also gone to pull out of a junction as a car/truck is passing, knowing that they will be gone by the time it overcomes the usual lag, and it kills the power.

Very 'truck like' compared to the previous diesel Territory's.

Android Auto worked OK, didn't quite get the hang of it before the car was written off !

Mine is due soon and it's silver !

If you have an iPhone it won't be long before you are wondering how you got along without CarPlay.

The Boss loves Silver - apart from the Techs vehicles everything is Silver and it's his money, so Silver it is.

The speed alarm was the one that ****ed me off the most but I tested it and the settings stay when the car is switched off and back on again. The lane guidance didn't other me and actually did its thing while I was dicking around with the buttons so I know that works... I didn't encounter the auto braking so will see what that's like but I know on the Rav 4 we soon turned it off as it is pretty bad - it liked slamming the brakes on driving through the Estate we live in on quite a few shallow sweeping bends thinking we're about to drive into a parked car.
