Its all in our heads- Pain

We feel it but where is it? A pod cast on opioids came to the same conclusion - its in our heads. This lady with an arm amputated and many other examples suggest where we think it is might not be the actual place.

I'll try and find the pod cast later which was very interesting.

Like the guy who got his wife to help him hammer in fence posts, he was holding the post to make sure it was in line and vertical and said to his wife, "When I nod my head you hit it".

Seriously the only thing I know about confusing head pain is sinus pain versus toothache, and I believe the way to tell is, if you jump and the pain increases it is sinus or if you drink something hot or cold and the pain increases it is toothache.

My missus is a medically prescribed smack head, I keep telling her to get over it and get off the ****.
It's criminal how much government endorsed nonsense has gone on with pain medication and government (tax payer) support for the pushers of such rubbish.

There's a place for hard core opioid meds, but long term pain management is not one of them.

So what is your solution for people that have to live with long term chronic pain??
If the prescribed meds are improoving someones quality of life by reducing the pain that they have to live with then Who are you to question their decision to use these prescriptions.
Going from your comments on the COV19 thread you are Obviously NOT a physician or have Any medical expertise whatsoever so your comments are "Questionable" to say the least.

If your missus needs the meds to alleviate her pain leave her alone FFS and calling her a "Smack Head" because she Chooses Not to live in agony is insensitive and downright rude.

yeah mate, government sponsored drug addiction is awesome.
Get out into the real world before you get all judgmental.
Opioids do nothing to ease long term pain, they're bloody good at propping up drug companies profits though.
THEY DO NOT IMPROVE QUALITY OF LIFE!

RE the covid thread. LOL So I'm wrong in believing and trusting in the science of vaccinations?
are you a doctor or phys? if not, you're in no position to make a judgement call.
(this post will probably get deleted too)

Yes you can get addicted to opiates, It IS a problem.
I myself used opiates after having my left arm reconstructed a few years ago following a head on collision that smashed the bones in my arm and pretty much minced most of the skin/muscle as well, I was in the front passenger seat during the collision.
The pain was constant and pretty much unbearable for about a year and without the opiates my quality of life and my recovery would have suffered badly (Hows that for "Getting out in the Real World)
Opiates Can and DO improove the quality of life when taken appropriately.
It took me about 6 weeks to "Wean" myself off the medication by reducing the dose and eventually stop using the altogether.
My doctor advised me NOT to quit cold turkey which I ignored for 3 days until I realised that she knew Exactly what she was talking about.

Without the medication my life would have been a bloody nightmare.

I don't have to be a medical expert to Know for a Fact that pain killers are definately beneficial for extream pain throughpersonal experiance.

"Opioids do nothing to ease long term pain" True-

They help with the here and now of course. Main problem with them is we need more and more to get the same effect if we use them longer than a few days and they are incredibly addictive.

Pain management is some times learning to cope IF the physical issues is resolved. My very smashed pelvis was unquestionably the most significant pain I have ever felt. Titanium plates and screws fixed that for me. It was easy to stop pushing my magic button of 5 minute Fentanyl, a Very very strong opioid as soon as that was done despite all the other injuries yet to be fixed.

Long term pain, back pain .......... it a PITA plus. My brother is/was addicted to opioids after an accident. He is still messed up sadly.

Found one of the pod casts Pain its all in our brain Their are now some pain specialist centers who can help if help is wanted. Its a bit like my bad habit of running long distances. Almost anyone can IF they want to. I suspect pain is a bit like that. I am not an expert of course and I did not need a lot of help very luckily for me .

I don't think anyone can tell someone to "just get over it" (in a general sense) anyone who says that has never lived in constant pain or disability and has absolutely zero idea what it's like. When someone tells us to just get over it; it's extremely ableist and insensitive and downright rude. Shows huge lack of empathy and care and a lack of understanding.
I suffer chronic pain 24/7. I have 2 neurological autoimmune conditions that took my ability to walk, and both cause extreme pain ans fatigue. One more so than the other.
Its a society that doesn't understand thst wants to take away a person's right to pain medication.
I am actually not on pain medication of any type because I have severe allergic reactions to it, (like throat and tongue swelling) and I don't want the side effects or the judgement. But it means quality of my life is out of my control. No one would know by looking at me that I'm in a heck load of pain every waking moment. I'm 95 % on the floor or bed and 5% entering God mode being able to push through to do the things in life I love.
Most people on pain medication are not druggies who are addicted. They maintain their healthy dose and use them to improve the quality of life. They have decided that is better than what side effects they may experience. Sure some are addicted but all those around me on them are absolutely not. They stick to very controlled doses.
That being said I do believe there needs to be pain medication options that aren't so scary.
There definitely needs to be less society judgement too. If someone on long term pain meds is able to go live a better life thanks to them, why does the world think they have the right to judge on something that doesn't affect them? Same as disability spaces and society seeing a person park in one and walk! The world is awful and assumes they've stolen someone's permit! When that is never the case!

My cousin lived with a rare medical condition (12 documented cases world wide). She was self medicating with Morphine and I will never forget her doctor telling me "Her doses would kill a hardened junkie". Whatever gets you through the day.

This article came to mind as I perused this thread:
