    How far--

If I hook up a van with a 6.1m wheelbase, at 90deg to centreline of van, how far do I have to move it before it "falls in behind" ?

Thinking tangentially, methinks it could depend on the relative location of the axle(s)

even huge clearviews cant answer this ...

its an interesting engineering problem,, theres probably an equation out there..
I have 5.9m of road left (on the left) until the van must be within a metre of the cars centre line.

ball is 1.2 behind rear car axle,
centre of vans axles is 6.1 from hitch.

I'd suggest if you are talking a specific location you will need to accomodate (and you arent stuck there right now) to just set up the very situation somewhere clear and give it a go!

Could be an interesting little exercise to post in TGO.

I think that the available squirm in the tyres might play a small part, but I reckon it will be about 12metres as a guess.

    This equation might help.

    Admittedly, it also might not.

Using a drawing, by my reckoning, approx 16m of road length would be needed to get the van axle centre within 1 metre of the centre of the tow point.
