Hopefully this is helpful in understanding the new Defender dash layout:

This doesn't look like any sort of mock-up - this is probably the real deal. Defenders have their dashboards fitted to the firewall prior to mounting on the chassis and assembly of the other body panels. You can see this is already mounted to a firewall but looks like it is suspended awaiting a chassis.

I don't like the dash. It's lost the unique look that only the Defender series and a few old cars have.
It's become Americanised, I'm sorry if I offend anyone saying this but it's just lost something special. It may look like a Defender on the outside the interior however doesn't

You seem to know this dash layout pretty well. But everything that you've labeled makes sense (and is good to see), it also fits with land rovers lifestyle branding, although obviously not military or other customers. But the way that it appears to be modular suggests that there may be other options.
Also, I still think that the RH knob on the bottom is a cigy lighter plug, and the LHS one would be heat control, but i've been wrong before :lol2:
The labelling looks like a pretty good analysis, but I didn't think they could fit airbags to the current firewall set up and wouldn't be able to introduce them till they changed to the LR3 platform. Having said that, nothing stops them introducing the dash a year earlier and then incorporating the airbag in the later chassis.

I just wonder how much the unnecessary crap on the ugly dashboard will up the price?
I cannot see the point of it all, if it ain't broken don't fix it or in this case disect destroy and Americanise it

I agree with that idea entirely, analogue instrumentation has not been superceeded by digital, it depends on the application. Digital displays remove errors in reading where high accuracies are needed but analogue displays are "easier" to read and often more stylish with it.;)Quote:
