Has anyone else read the article in LRM where they have an insider in the Factory at oily hull the insider says crates and crates of Ford V10 diesels have been arriving for the NEW Defender. That would be the Bulge

That would have to be for sale into the US. I can't imagine them bringing that here with the way fuel prices are going

Few further observations and response to some raised eyebrow queries on my annotated picture:

Yes, heated seats. They have been standard in County spec Defenders in the UK for some time, along with heated windscreen - not just a blower demister, an actual heater element in the screen.

The headlight dip switch is not the main-beam/high-beam switch, that would still be on the steering column. This is the switch to lower the headlight beam angle - some Aus spec Defenders from 2003 have had this as standard but we don't really use that type of thing here much.

I'm not so sure about the cigarette lighter - there is no actual ashtray in the dash at all either. You will notice I mentioned the attached centre console - you can see the bolts at the bottom of the fascia. It would not surprise me if they move the ashtray, cigarette lighter and (gasp) cup holders into that.

Other than the instrument binnacle, there is nothing in this dash that is not already standard CSW spec. You are right in presuming that the dash can probably accommodate a passenger side airbag, but probably won't until the major Defender overhaul - similar to the P38 Range Rover which saw its dash installed in the last model Classic Range Rover.

In any case, I like it.

looks ok---I wonder if they have catered for drivers over 170 cm this time round? If they have the market will go mad.

I like the look, but I am worried about the controls for the front vents. This is a feature I really like about the fender, and cannot see any levers for opening them. If the vents are now for show, I will not be happy. Not sure about the different shape of the bonnet, I think it may grow on me though. I would welcome the better controls for heating, and better air conditioning.

Seeing as how my "demister" actually appears to be a fogger, maybe they'll cancel each other out!

I suffered from that and a prevading smell of what appeared to be mouse **** then at Zook's advice I got into the fender intake vent and gave it a clean out. Mud had blocked the drain.

    Pretty good now.
