    response times OZ companies

I have asked two different companies down under some questions (via email or contact forms) regarding products a week ago or more even and I have not yet gotten any response, not even a "got your message, get back to you later".

Is everyone on vacation over there or smth?

It all depends on the supplier and there’s a couple of things at play.

Any generic email would go to a common mailbox - we have one at work ourselves which all office staff have access to - we check it throughout the day but it can be several hours before we see an email then reply to it. Biggest issue is lack of staff pretty much everywhere - we have a chronic shortage of staff - we would put 4 more on tomorrow if we could but in 12 months of advertising we haven’t managed to get more than one more driver.

We pay top dollar and it’s a great place to work but everyone that wants a job has one so we’re stuck like a lot of others and I can imagine that checking an alternative email would come low on the list of busy businesses.

Then there’s just the **** ones who set up a website with an info email then never bother to look at it. You eventually call them and they say ‘nah, we don’t do email’

So it could be one or the other of these things. response times OZ companies

Ordered six actuators for work from the usual company in September, delivery keeps getting put off, still waiting for return email sent last Monday, for a new estimate of ETA.

    Ordered 3 from EBay,they were here in 5 days,same product,2% more expensive,freight was free.

Why would I bother with ordering them from the Aus supplier, ever again?

Contactors and overloads are the same,we generally buy around 60 to 70 a time.
Local electrical suppliers are rediculously expensive.
We order them from interstate, not only a lot cheaper, but turn up quickly.
    Same for capacitors.
Usually buy over a hundred at a time, all different sizes, use an interstate supplier again.

I ordered a present yesterday around 2pm online from Sydney (I’m in Melbourne) - I got a text saying shipped at 6pm and it arrived at work 9am today - it can be done if the business has their systems set up correctly and actually want to make the effort that’s for sure.

I ordered a tool one Saturday at 16:00. It arrived on Sunday before 11:00. Sure, I have Prime, but...

Obviously the item was in stock.., somewhere.., but that's how you get repeat business. I know it's difficult to compete with the big boys, but that's no reason not to try. I would prefer to deal with the little bloke, and really only went to Amazon when the lockdowns prevented me from doing anything else, but it's hard to go back to someone who can't be bothered.

You can still compete when it comes to good service. I work for a small company - one of the machines we supplied a customer some time ago needed a new voltage regulator - the gen is remote and access is by helicopter currently due to the floods. Customers need was urgent, we didn't have the part here but we got one from the other side of the City and had it heading to site within a couple of hours. It will be there by the time they organise the flight to get the part and tech in.
