    Crocodile.

A credible sighting of a three metre croc, just off Stradbroke. Authorities are taking it seriously and are conducting a large search. They will also be spotlighting tonight.
Perhaps you could offer a hand, Navy Diver. An extra pair of eyes, sans boat.
Personally, I wouldn't be fussing, next week is the end of the holiday season, it'll go back to Sandgate lagoon.

I remember, when I was a tacker in the '50s, that one of the Dohles of Dohles Rocks, probably old Charlie, had brought a juvenile croc back home from a trip up North in the '40s. I also remember, quite few years later, my father telling my Mum that the croc had grown too big for Charlie to keep, so Charlie got rid of it. Just before my father died, five years ago, I asked him exactly how the croc was 'Got rid of' and he couldn't recall. The Pine Rivers and Bramble Bay estuary would have been pretty good for a croc in the '60's.

My father had one for a while as well,a smallish freshie, about a meter long.
It came to an end when we went on holidays for a few weeks, and its carer fed it mince full of preservatives, even though they were told only to feed it the food that was left for it.

For as long as I can remember, there's been a legend that there was a croc in the Sandgate lagoons. Odd how in such a confined area, nobody managed to get a photo. Maybe it's a cousin of Nelly.

Maybe Charlie's pet initiated the Sandgate lagoons tale.

I did a detailed survey of the lagoons and surrounds, when the new Woolies was going upmarket and nary a salty to be seen. There were a few old crocs wandering the streets of Sandgate, though.
